As VoIP moves from early adoption into the mainstream, and competitive pressures intensify, service providers must look carefully at how service fulfillment OSS solutions can enhance VoIP business models. Simply having VoIP technology in place is not enough to achieve real business success. As a key component of the service delivery model, strategic OSS solutions are necessary to eliminate the complexities of provisioning a converged network, enabling the back office to meet evolving market needs and improving bottom line performance by significantly reducing operational costs.
Increased acceptance and use of communications for voice and content delivery has created the need for instant accessibility to services. This “instant accessibility” is driving the need for Service Providers to implement “Zero Touch” end to end service fulfillment that will eliminate long subscriber provisioning and service delivery cycles. Fundamental issues remain – when does a Service Provider need to get more involved? How much should be automated? What happens when systems fail?
The AVIS catalyst project brings together the industry’s leading vendors to architect, build, and test a full end-to-end service fulfillment, delivery, and assurance environment based on the IMS and Service Oriented Architecture. Using proven off-the-shelf components, the system will implement the real-world SDP to provide a SIP-based VoIP service to the end users.
