| Implementing standards-based OSS for accelerating converged products delivery
Team leader: Sajith Sankar, Sajith.Sankar@cognizant.com Staff Support: Debbie Burkett, dfburkett@tmforum.org Project Sponsor: France Telecom Participating Companies: BEA Systems, Ceon, Cognizant Technology Solutions, NetCracker, and Pantero The NGN OSS Blueprint Catalyst team will demonstrate how to use a service oriented architecture (SOA) and standards-based OSS solution to bridge the gap between service creation, product management and service fulfillment for IMS and other converged services infrastructure. The team will create a standards-based ‘blue-print’ for the service delivery OSS for dynamic and rapidly changing converged services. The solution will span the full circle from service creation through to product catalog representation, ordering, fulfillment, and subscriber parameter management and usage. The end-to-end OSS solution will be prototyped and implemented to support a weather alert notification service for residential customers. The solution incorporates a number of best-practices and standards-based technologies. This is the first TMF catalyst project where all the software components within the entire solution will communicate using web services in a true SOA. A complete end-to-end service creation, fulfillment and usage scenario will be realized based on a SOA framework that includes XML/SOAP, WSDL and UDDI. Moreover, this catalyst project is pioneering the use of detailed NGOSS Contracts for service interfaces. As global service providers examine their current networks and OSS support in relation to moving to all IP Next Generation Networks (NGN), they have concluded that these networks cannot deliver the desired service economy without effective OSS solutions based on NGOSS contracts that are a form of extended Service Oriented Architecture. The TMF is working aggressively to produce implementable NGOSS contracts, and the ICON Catalyst project is a key contributor to this effort. The catalyst project team will demonstrate how to use a service oriented architecture (SOA) and standards-based OSS solution to bridge the gap between service creation, product management and service fulfillment for IMS and other converged services infrastructure. They will create a standards-based ‘blue-print’ for the service delivery OSS for dynamic and rapidly changing converged services. There is a growing interest in OSS solutions for supporting business and service models around Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC). This catalyst shows how an operator can provide converged services using NGOSS standards. The catalyst highlights how the use of NGOSS contracts allows the service provider to easily devise such converged product offerings.
This is the third phase of the catalyst project aimed at develop a working OSS solution framework to enable an operator to bridge the gap between service creation, product management, order handling, provisioning and billing for converged services using standards from ETSI, 3GPP, and the TeleManagement Forum.
