Ever wondered what impact all that spending on telecommunications has on national economies? If you haven’t, maybe you should and maybe governments should start appreciating just how much the industry contributes to gross national product (GNP). A joint report from NDN (which calls itself a leading think tank and advocacy organization based in Washington, DC) and NPI (New Policy Institute) claims that investments and innovation entailed in the transition from 2G to 3G wireless technologies... -
We all know the reasons mobile operators are rushing to roll out LTE 4G service, but there may be no real reason for customers to take it up in the short term. Yes, it's fast, but so is HSPA+ 3G with many operators reaching speeds of 21-72Mbps. Oh, and there are a lot more devices around for those 3G networks - all the top sellers are 3G-enabled smartphones. In fact, the current 3G experience is so good that, according to a Connected Consumer survey by Analysys Mason, 46 percent of iPhone 4 users... -
Running the world’s first commercial 4G mobile network has given TeliaSonera a head start and a few head-aches as well. 4G users have changed their mobile surfing habits simply as a result of gaining access to quicker mobile broadband, 10 times quicker to be exact. As might be expected, the people who jumped on the 4G bandwagon first were those already interested in technology. According to a survey conducted by the operator 100 days into its LTE experience, over 90 percent of users had upgraded... -

Perhaps this issue has opened the FCC’s eyes to that fact if we’re going to have a debate about an open mobile web; it’s not just the mobile service providers who need to be bound up with net neutrality legislation... -
3G promised us the mobile Internet but, as ever, the hype got ahead of reality. To be fair, by the time that 3G was finally agreed upon and rolled out, the speeds it offered seemed rather pedestrian, and most industry watchers are now waiting on a 4G world for a truly global, mobile Internet with access speeds capable of supporting the kinds of applications and services that the iPhone is letting us glimpse. And that might happen faster than we think. The 1.5 billion app downloads on iPhone –... -
The news that Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google, has resigned from the board of Apple Inc is generating a lot of headlines. Maybe Apple’s action in blocking access to Google Voice on its app store last week was the straw that broke the camel’s back. But then Apple has form in this area – last month the Palm Pre also got ‘disconnected’ from Apple’s iTunes store. We also heard this week that Skype, now the world’s largest international phone company with 40+ million... | | Paid Advertisement | | | | | Copyright © 1988-2012, TeleManagement Forum.
