Wednesday, February 24
9:00 AM  - 10:30 AM
Keynote Plenary Session
Consolidation, Centralisation and Expansion in Africa; Moving Towards a Lower Total Cost of Ownership
In this session Chris Gabriel, Chief Executive, Zain Africa will cover consolidation, centralisation and expansion in Africa and how Service Providers are moving towards a lower total cost of ownership. He will also address lowering CapEx and OpEx through convergence, transformation and outsourcing.
Keynote Presentation: New Network, New VAS, New BSS with New Africa
Along with the substantial innovation of telecom industry and the entire society and economy, Africa telecom is coming to a turning point of a leaping development shifting from network-coverage-oriented mode to customer-experience-oriented one, but are we really ready for this huge tide of opportunity? Obviously, more attention should be put on the transformation of VAS and BSS as well as on the network. Combined with specific business practices, the proposed solution based on TM Forum's NGOSS and SDF will be given in the presentation.
Keynote Presentation: Focusing on Customer Experience to Improve Profitability
It is now becoming clear that there is a tight and measurable linkage between a customer's experience and the service provider's bottom line. A recent study by Bain & Co show that a 5-percent improvement in customer retention rates could yield as much as a 75-percent increase in profits for companies across a wide range of industries. In this presentation, Martin Creaner will share recent research by the TM Forum on the growing importance of effectively managing customer experience and the key areas that affect it.

Next-Generation Networks – The Importance of Interoperability Services to Help Service Providers Thrive in a Changing Communication World
The migration to IP-based technology enables the delivery of new multimedia services. For service providers involved in delivering these new services, this technological change demands a secure and scalable, federation-based interconnect solution. These new services will enormously disrupt current communication and telephony business models. In this session, Paul Dinsmore of XConnect, will cover the key business and technology drivers for transforming business through an IP interoperability platform and related value-added services. What are the key success factors? How is the need for interoperability transforming business relationships? And why should communication providers move into an Interconnect 2.0 communication model? The panelists will discuss the NGN experiences of operators and vendors who are showing the way to reshape businesses to become 21C communication providers. They will share lessons learned as they implement NGN technology and discuss how the development of interoperability services and solutions can support the subsequent transformation of their businesses.
Driving Forces in the Service Management & OSS Industry: Implications for Emerging Markets
In order to thrive, Communication Service Providers (CSPs) face increasing operational and innovation demands along with disruptive industry forces. This presentation introduces these demands/forces, reviews CSP businesses and strategies and impact of SM/OSS on the industry and its structure (for global and emerging markets). Specific disruptive forces/stabilizing agents are presented and their impact on these markets. Implications for local and regional CSPs/vendors are identified. It is imperative that these are addressed.

Enabling Profitable Mobile Broadband Services
Delivering on 4G: LTE and Beyond…
LTE creates opportunities for service providers to reduce costs, benefit from efficiencies and drive new revenues. But they need to decide which role to play in the LTE ecosystem, and how best to plan, manage and monetize the complex transformation to 4G. We’ll introduce a four-phase LTE lifecycle – network and commercial planning, network build, launch and monetization – highlighting for each phase, the strategies and tools service providers need to maximize their return on LTE.
Business & Network Transformation; Enabling Profitable Broadband Services
Mobile internet has undeniably turned the corner as access to high-speed networks fuels substantial growth. Traffic levels driven by P2P and Internet Access are expected to grow 20 times in southern Africa in the next 3 to 5 years, dramatically outpacing the predicted data revenue increase. Demand for mobile broadband is here, but is there a sustainable business case? This presentation will examine traffic management, cost efficiencies and the applications and services required for the business and network transformation needed to enable profitable broadband services.
Is NGOSS a Universal Standard Yet?
Communication service providers from around the world are currently facing a raft of global products, the most famous being iPhone and Blackberry, each one of which requires a degree of integration into OSS and/ or BSS. But to what degree are these presented in a common language and to what degree are OSS/ BSS able to respond? In this presentation we will propose standard APIs to lower product launch costs and deliver faster time to market.

Strategies for Monetizing Content
Monetizing Content: Creating Subscriber Value and Revenue Opportunities
Demand for viewing premium content on mobile devices is growing with each new device release. Operators have the technology to authorize and allow the viewing of cable content on any device, so how can this content be monetized to drive revenue growth? This presentation will show how robust, personal subscriber profiles can be used to provide personalized ads and campaigns, bringing value to the subscriber and revenue to the operator.
Learning from the Success of Slingbox: Mobile Paradigm for Fixed Services
Slingbox’s success has once again demonstrated that subscribers put personalized content above all else when it comes to using a service. This presentation is about how service providers can use the power of personalization and enable delivery of services- fixed or mobile, regardless of location. Using cases studies from Swisscom, US Government, it describes how device-activated and nomadic services used so effectively by Slingbox can enable the highest personalization and drive significant new revenues.
New Business Models will Succeed or Fail Based on Effective Use of Analytics
Business Analytics are essential for successful transformation projects. eTOM and SID models provide an efficient mechanism for integrating business analytics into new generation systems. This session will demonstrate how leading operators are leveraging advanced analytics to understand influence and churn energy created by leaders of social networks, make sub-second content delivery decisions based on location, presence, customer behavior and preferences, and prioritize network infrastructure spending, and effectively manage mobile advertising and close-looped marketing campaigns.

New Paradigm in Telecom Operations Support - A Success Story
HCL partnered with British Telecom in designing an innovative Telecom Operations Support Framework with the focus on the accuracy and timeliness of service delivered utilising the TM Forum Applications Framework (TAM) and Service Delivery Framework (SDF). The presentation illustrates the salient features of this model and the strategic initiatives which have produced tangible values such as 50% reduction in the number of incidents, 45% reduction in cycle time and sizable improvements in many other metrics.
TM Forum Interface Program (TIP) Open Source Project
The TM Forum Interface Program (TIP) is standardizing the next generation of OSS interfaces by drawing upon the strengths of MTOSI, OSS/J, MTNM and IPDR. The TIP Framework will encompass the core tools, software components, and documentation to enable the rapid specification of each new interface from business requirements through to WSDL in accordance with the TIP design guidelines. One of the most innovative aspects of the program is in its use of Open Source development techniques and technologies to increase the attractiveness of the new interfaces for early adopters. Open source is being used to create the core TIP Framework artefacts, Reference Implementations, Compatibility Test Kits and an Implementation library for prospective developers. This talk will provide an introduction to the TIP Open Source Project and infrastructure as hosted on http://openoss.sourceforge.net
