Curious developers may wish to know about the source of the requirements that drove the development of the interfaces. Here is where the Business Process Framework eTOM comes into play. Tasks that are performed by individuals or applications are contained in this framework. The descriptions of the tasks can be seen as a set of draft functional requirements for applications and their associated interfaces.

The content of the interfaces that are exposed to the applications are defined in the Information Framework (SID). The SID defines the Information Model for any Interface, regardless of whether it is a TM Forum Interface or not. Another important application of the SID is that it can be used by Developers to get started with Database Design.

The Application Framework Map answers questions such as what are the applications in which the interfaces can be used. GB942MAP – TM Forum Solution Framework Mappings between the Application Framework (TAM) and interfaces. The TAM itself, GB942 TM Forum Application Framework provides a template of applications that possess well defined boundaries which is of benefit in defining application boundaries.

The most likely place for developers to start regarding TM Forum content is the Interfaces Program, which is part of the Integration Framework. Check out the downloads matrix on the Developer Network and click "Interface Program" from the vertical tab. Then use the horizontal tab to further refine your search by documentation, code, white papers, case studies, etc. The most recent developments in the interface space, is the development of an Open Source Interface Framework. This provides tooling that will help automate the generation of interfaces.

Finally, for developers interested in a service orientated approach, the Integration Framework's suite of guidebooks, GB942 is likely to be of interest.

This is a diagram outlining a brief overview of the work being done in the Open Source Interface Framework.
