The Business Process Framework (eTOM) serves as the blueprint for standardizing and categorizing business activities (in the form of process elements) that will help set direction and provide the starting point for development and integration of Business and Operations Support Systems (BSS/OSS). An important aspect of applying the Business Process Framework is that it is a key component of TM Forum’s Frameworx, and so also helps to support and guide work by TM Forum members and others to develop Frameworx solutions. It provides an industry-standard reference point, when considering internal process reengineering needs, partnerships, alliances, and general working agreements with other enterprises, and for suppliers into such enterprises, the Business Process Framework outlines potential boundaries of process solutions, and the required functions, inputs, and outputs that must be supported by process solutions.
The Business Process Framework has grown to include a number of components. These include the Framework itself with its process descriptions, as well as a range of other material, including user guidance, application notes and assistance in applying the Framework in practice, and in concert with other work like ITIL.
This Release 11.5 has updates in the following main areas:
- Revised process content affecting the “Assurance” column in Operations, implementing refinements in how process description detail is captured at Level 4, and other process updates. These are contained in an updated “Addendum DX Package” for Assurance.
- Revised process content affecting the “Billing & Revenue Management” column in Operations, implementing updates from the Charging & Billing group (within the Revenue Management Initiative). These are contained in an updated “Addendum DX Package” for Billing & Revenue Management.
- Several new user guidance documents, that provide assistance and support for users of the Business Process Framework. These are:
- GB921W: “Working Together - ITIL and eTOM” – a new Addendum giving an overview of how eTOM/ITIL are integrated.
- GB921L: “GB921L Leveraging Level 4 Process Elements and Process Flows for Support of ITIL“ - a new Addendum going into the detail of eTOM/ITIL integration using the Level 4s and additional components of ITIL that are being merged into the Level 4 structure.
- GB921Q: “Frequently Asked Questions” – a new Addendum based on the “Golden Nuggets” we have developed for the Business Process Framework
- GB921J: “Joining the Business Process Framework through to Process Flows” – a new Addendum showing methodology for applying eTOM in Process Flows and how to move towards the flow view.
