Information Framework (SID)

Simplifying Integration, Speeding Time to Market

Overview

Without standardized information models, data may require extensive transformation each time it passes among applications requiring costly, customized integration across multiple system interfaces. The TM Forum’s Information Framework (SID) addresses this challenge by embodying an extensive, flexible, and widely proven model that defines business concepts, their characteristics and relationships, all described in an implementation independent manner.

The Information Framework (SID) is in use extensively in the marketplace in a wide variety of implementation projects.  Visit the Case Study Library to see over 60 case studies referencing the Information Framework across service providers and their suppliers.

TM Forum recognizes that service-oriented architecture (SOA) development and related integration architectures rely heavily on a common information model and a common language for all systems touched by integration efforts.

TM Forum's Information Framework (SID) not only succeeds in building this common language, but also in aligning data with pertinent business processes. To that end, the TM Forum Information Framework's information is mapped directly to the widely deployed Business Process Framework (eTOM) process definitions. The two go hand-in-hand so that data in management applications truly reflects the business requirements of the Service Provider. This harmony between information and business process has become the cornerstone of the TM Forum's Solution Frameworks.

Did you know?
The Information Framework and its synergy with the Business Process Framework (eTOM) has received further validation through the  ITU-T Recommendation M.3190 , led by Dave Sidor of Nortel and Knut Johannessen of Telenor. The Recommendation encompasses the “Product” and “Service” domains of The TM Forum Information Framework v 7.5.

GSM mobile Internet service successfully launched by Auchan Telecom in France
After having successfully entered the French MVNO pre-paid voice market in 2006, Auchan Telecom, a member of Auchan Group, extended its offer to mobile Internet service. Subscriptions are made available in its numerous hypermarkets located throughout the country. The whole Service Delivery Platform, provided by Comarch, was enhanced to grant customers IP network access, depending on the real-time voucher account balance. As a Software Oriented Architecture, using HTTP and web services as main access tools, Comarch’s integration gateway easily interfaced with the dedicated Mobile Network Operator that Auchan Telecom choose to collect IP traffi
