In just over a week, communications professionals from far and wide will converge on Orlando, Florida, but the main attraction won’t be the many theme parks in the area. Rather, it’ll be the concentration of knowledge, ideas, real-world solutions, networking and much more at Management World Americas 2011. In this special edition of Inside Track, we preview this important event with a look at Forumville and the 7 Catalyst demonstrations you’ll find there; the valuable training and certification courses being offered during the week; and the view from Martin Creaner, TM Forum President and CEO, on why Management World Americas is the place to be. In addition, we have a really interesting case study of collaboration in action from our Cable Interest Group as well as an excerpt from our new research report on agile decision making through analytics. It’s a packed issue that gives you a clear snapshot of the challenges in the industry and what's being done to solve them.

Details have emerged of a sweetheart deal between the U.S. regulator, the FCC, and wireless operators on a voluntary code to inform customers when they approach pre-set limits on their plans, especially data usage, and also when they exceed the tiers and are about to be charged extra. With the ink hardly dry on that overdue piece of news, there emerged a much more sensational headline that one customer was presented with a bill for over $200,000!
Worryingly, Ovum's biennial survey of wholesale customers found that the performance of suppliers has declined against most of the criteria that matter most to buyers. The service levels, repair times and product and service features offered by suppliers influence the buying decisions of wholesale customers the most after price, yet supplier performance on all three has declined during the last two years.
As if to throw caution to the wind, Sprint management is promoting unlimited data plans in conjunction with the long-awaited introduction of the iPhone 4S to its stable. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? AT&T did exactly the same over four years ago when it launched the original iPhone, only to rescind its generous offer after the load stress was felt across its network.
While the storm clouds of economic uncertainty are still on the horizon, the communications industry has many reasons to expect clearer skies. Martin Creaner, President and CEO of TM Forum, gives us his views of what’s happening in the industry and why Management World Americas 2011 is the place to be to learn where we stand today and, more importantly, how to succeed no matter the weather.
Next month in Orlando, one of the cornerstones of Management World Americas 2011 will be Forumville. Located right on the Expo floor, this is your one-stop shop where TM Forum's best practices, standards, Frameworx and collaborative programs come to life. To whet your appetite for what's in store, check out our top 10 reasons why you should be there.
How can service providers deal with increasing complexity while trying to boost customer loyalty, speed innovation and reduce costs? Although decision support tools such as analytics and business intelligence in general offer the raw promise of breakthrough results, these outcomes have been difficult to come by. Service providers have struggled with problematic data sources, incomplete tools and skepticism on the part of the business community. In a brand new Quick Insights report, author Rob Rich explores approaches to improving business results with analytics. Find out more in this excerpt.

As with most things in business, a true need drove the Cable Interest Group to create its first Frameworx Quick Start Pack in less than 3 months. This project is an example of how TM Forum's Collaboration Community brings together the right parties across the value chain to define a problem and create a new best practice or standard that provides a solution.
