This document defines the interface implementation specification (IIS) for P&P Contract/SLA Management within UMTS (Phase 1 – Nice2001). The project addressed real-time (or near real-time) information requirements for the provisioning and management of services within a GPRS (UMTS) network: this included SLA Contracting, Service Delivery and Reconfiguration, QoS Policy Management and Configuration, SLA and QoS Compliance Verification and Customer Impact.
Within the GPRS and UMTS environment users will use Mobile Terminal Equipment to access voice and data services. In many cases, the users will be able to dynamically set or change their service levels, according to the service offered by the service provider. With the enormity of users in a consumer-based system it is essential that a shared data model is used to distribute information to all components in the network, which provide the overall quality of service, based on service level agreements.
Each of the following applications contributes a relevant part of the shared data model for assuring quality of service within the GPRS and UMTS environment:
- Contract Management (service level agreement/contract)
- Provisioning
- Service Level Monitoring (Business Impact Recognition)
- Internal QoS Monitoring (availability, performance, customer support)
- Billing (credits, rebates)
The complete integration of these components presents challenges, which need to be addressed to enable an effective workflow. This was the goal of the Catalyst Showcase whose results are recorded in TMF830.
