Dr. Shyue-Ching Lu

Dr. Shyue-Ching Lu, Chairman & CEO, Chunghwa Telecom

Dr. Shyue-Ching Lu has been Chairman of Chunghwa Telecom since August 2008. Before that, he was the President since 1996. Prior to Chunghwa Telecom, he served as the Deputy Director General of Directorate General of Telecommunications (DGT), Director General at Department of Posts and Telecommunications, Ministry of Transportation and Communication, and Managing Director, Telecommunication Laboratory.

During these years, Dr. Lu was involved in transforming DGT, a government agency, into a state-owned enterprise- Chunghwa Telecom (CHT). After this restructuring, the state-owned CHT immediately faced the competition from liberalized mobile market. Under Dr. Lu’s leadership, CHT managed to compete effectively and maintains the leading position in the mobile market.

Dr. Lu also contributed to the privatization of CHT, when in 2003 successfully listed on the NYSE.  Dr. Lu has a Ph. D degree in Electrical Engineering.

Paul Berriman

Paul Berriman, Chief Technology Officer, PCCW Limited

Paul Berriman has been the Chief Technology Officer of PCCW Limited since May 2007.  He is in charge of the Technology Strategy and Development team which is responsible for product development management, billing and operational support systems development, overall service quality, technology strategy, vision and innovation across the telecommunications and media businesses of the PCCW Group. 

Most recently he has led fixed and wireless projects in Hong Kong and overseas including the successful broadband IPTV service in Hong Kong, and PCCW’s Next Generation Network (NGN) programme.  

He is a Chartered Engineer through the Institute of Electrical Engineers and a member of the Institute of Acoustics. 
Sigve Brekke

Sigve Brekke, Head of Telenor Asia

Over past years he has held a number of senior roles in Telenor most recently as Director and Chief Executive Officer, Total Access Communication PLC and Director and Chief Executive Officer, United Communication Industry PLC – both companies within the Telenor portfolio.

His experience in Asia dates back some years when in 2000 he was Managing Director, Telenor Asia Pte. Ltd. His background prior to Telenor, he comes from a political environment where he was Deputy Minister (State Secretary) of Defence, at the Ministry of Defence, Norway.

He was also Associate Research Fellow at Harvard University, Center for Science and International Affairs, John F. Kennedy School of Government, USA.

Sumit Chowdhury

Sumit Chowdhury, CIO, Reliance Communications Ltd

Dr. Sumit Chowdhury is the CIO of Reliance Communication, responsible for Delivery and Operations of all IT assets across the world. Prior to Reliance, Sumit was a Managing Director of BearingPoint looking after the Telco and SI practice working in Australia and the US. Sumit is a B-Tech from IIT Kanpur, MS and PhD. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Chen Gang

Chen Gang, GM for IT & Planning Development, China Mobile

Gang has had over 29 years of experience in the Information Technology and Management field. His current position is the General Manager of IT Plan & Development Center of China Mobile Group Shanxi Co., Ltd. He is in charge of building the company’s IT strategy, policy, infrastructure, large scale application architecture including DSS/BSS/OSS/CRM/NMS etc., IT related budgeting is part of his major work.

Gang was IT director of Softbank China Venture Capital before joining China Mobile.

Gang achieved his education in the US, and worked for large US firms for 10 years before coming back to China in 2000. He is interested in both technology and business process in the Telecommunication IT market. He also has broad communication with local and oversea senior Industry leaders.

Gang is adjunct professor at Peking University currently.
