NGOSS SOA: Generating TM Forum Information Framework (SID) Contracts

This course provides delegates with a practical hands-on experience in AutomagicKB’s approach to utilising the TM Forum Information Framework (SID) to analyze and design NGOSS-styled Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Entity-centric Service Contracts. This third party approach uses the Information Framework (SID) to explore the requirements of a typical Service Provider to identify opportunities for utilizing new and existing business application capability. The approach uses the framework's business entity models to 'discover' the business information required to support the operation of the organization. Models are created for specific contexts from which SOA Entity-centric Business Service Candidates become evident. A fictitious company 'EveryThing Works' is used to characterize the context of the challenge.

The course is intended for those who have a basic understanding of the NGOSS framework and its reference models (particularly the Information Framework (SID)) and are familiar with UML modeling. Delegates will leave the course understanding a methodology for making practical application of the Information Framework (SID) and reference models to create NGOSS-styled SOA Entity-centric Business Service Contracts.

Title: NGOSS SOA: Generating TM Forum Information Framework (SID) Contracts
Instructor: Cliff Faurer
Day: Thursday, May 22, 2008 (8:30am - 5:30pm)
Course level: Intermediate
Intended for:
This course provides attendees with detailed examples & hands-on training in a practical methodology for using NGOSS artifacts to develop Business & System View Contracts utilizing defined Entity-centric SOA Services. This course is geared towards business analysts, enterprise and solution architects, and solution designers.
Pre-requisites:

Attendees should have familiarity with UML 2 and have a good understanding of the TM Forum Information Framework (SID). Familiarity with the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM), the TM Forum Applications Framework (TAM), the TM Forum OSS/J APIs and the NGOSS lifecycle and method of problem solving are a plus.

Length: One day
Upon completion, delegates will be able to:
  • Leave the course with the view that using NGOSS to develop SOA Entity-centric Business Service Contracts is realistic and practical;
  • Understand how to utilize the Information Framework (SID) Business Entity model to characterize the organizational need for information;
  • Understand how to create platform-neutral models (Business & System View Contracts) that will support the auto-generation of executable artifacts (Implementation & Deployment View Contracts);
  • Have confidence in using the NGOSS-styled SOA methodology by engaging in a hands-on experience through practical exercises.
Agenda:
  • Overview of the TM Forum NGOSS framework (Self-paced Online Training Unit);
  • Overview of the AutoMagicKB NGOSS-styled SOA using MDA methodology;
  • Scoping the 'Everything Works' challenge;
  • Explore the TM Forum Information Framework (SID) by Domain;
  • Work Hands-On Exercises:
    • Extend existing draft Business Process Contracts to identify the necessary Entity-centric Service Candidates;
    • Describe these business information requirements as SOA Service Candidates in the NGOSS Business View Contract;
    • Work the Service Candidates (Business View) into Service Specifications (System View);
    • Specify the system design as an NGOSS System View Contract that utilizes the SOA Services;
    • Demonstrate a possible Model-driven implementation of the designed SOA Entity-centric information access services.
As with all official TM Forum courses, certificates of achievement will be issued.
