NGOSS Implementation Overview

   

NGOSS (New Generation Operations Systems & Software) is TM Forum's flagship program for end-end support in the specification and development of OSS/BSS solutions.  It represents an industry-agreed framework driven and managed by the TM Forum, that is developed by TM Forum members, including the major operators and suppliers worldwide. It is implemented as a set of frameworks, guidelines, specifications and maps that provide support throughout the OSS/BSS development cycle.

Intended for:
OSS/BSS professionals including: requirements engineers, enterprise
solution and system architects, solution providers.
Pre-requisites:
  • A general awareness of the TeleManagement Forum and its work;
  • Understanding of NGOSS, preferably attendance at a recent "NGOSS
    Distilled" course.
Length: One day
Technology Being Taught: The course aims to provide an overview of NGOSS from the user perspective, focusing on how the NGOSS frameworks and other components can work together to support OSS/BSS specification, development and implementation. It provides the student with information from which they can assess their own deployment business case, and a high level view of techniques and methodology to achieve this. A focus for this is the use of NGOSS Contracts as a vehicle for capturing specific areas of business interaction within, and between, enterprises, and how these are applied throughout the development cycle, with the potential for reuse, traceability, etc.
Upon completion, delegates will be able to:
  • Identify all the components of the NGOSS program;
  • Understand the role of the NGOSS in OSS/BSS solutions, and the benefits of using it;
  • Recognize which NGOSS components are relevant in addressing areas of business/technical need, and how to combine these;
  • Understand the role of NGOSS Contracts in facilitating business interactions and interfaces, and how these Contracts are specified and developed;
  • Understand the necessary steps for scoping a business process problem and applying NGOSS to solving it.

Instructor:

Mike Kelly (eTOM and NGOSS Compliance Program, TeleManagement Forum)
Mike Kelly has worked with the TeleManagement Forum since its earliest days,
and joined its staff over five years ago. He is concerned with the technical
work program, particularly TM Forum's New Generation Operations Systems and
Software (NGOSS) initiative. His particular focus is with the work on the
Enhanced Telecom Operations Map (eTOM) as a Business Process Framework for
the industry, and with integrating the business processes from this area
with systems developed using the methodology and architecture of TM Forum's
NGOSS program. He is also concerned with work on testing compliance and
conformance to NGOSS in OSS/BSS solutions.
 
Mike has worked in the telecommunications industry for thirty years, in
software and systems design, marketing and product management. He also spent
two years as an adviser to the Chief Scientist in the UK Government Cabinet Office
on telecommunications and IT policy.
 
Mike is a frequent conference speaker, and also provides training and consultancy to
organisations in applying the work of TM Forum and related bodies.
