New Board Appointments

Conference Room at TM Forum HeadquartersThe TM Forum Board of Directors role is to set the strategic direction for the Forum and is made up of senior executives from a global cross section of the industry. This includes leading users, service providers, solution suppliers and systems integrators from a range of countries.

Our industry continues to expand and the services that the Forum provides are relevant to an ever wide set of communities as companies everywhere become digital enterprises. Our membership continues to broaden and to ensure that the Board continues to reflect a representative cross section of the membership.

New Board members: In accordance with our Bylaws, the following individuals have been ratified as new members of the Board for a 2 year period at the Annual Meeting of Members which took place on Thursday 10th October. In line with New Jersey law, Board seats are held by individuals not their companies.


New Board Directors:

David Pleasance – Senior Partner, Deloitte
David is a senior consulting partner in the Strategic Relationship Management Group of Deloitte where he oversees the client relationships of a number of the firm’s global key accounts. He has over 30 years of experience applying common approaches across a number of industries including energy, industrial & process manufacturing, life science & health care and biotechnology. More recently his work has also extended into financial services and the public sector.

Based in the USA, David has architected business strategies and led enterprise transformation programs with many global companies focused on strengthening competitive positioning through the creative application of IT & digital technology, leveraging core technologies into ancillary markets and accelerating business expansion. He is currently working with a number of clients to implement game-changing strategies for competing in the rapidly changing digital world. David has also advised private equity clients in the structuring of numerous M&A transactions
Peter Sany – Chief Information and Technology Officer, Swiss Life
Peter previously served on the TM Forum Board as group CIO at Deutsche Telekom and has now joined Swiss Life as CITO and Member of the Board where he is leading their thrust to become as fully digital business. In parallel Peter is also Chairman and CEO of itcps Management Consulting AG, Switzerland. Based in Switzerland, he has worked in the ICT industry for 26 years from ‘all sides of the table’ from client executive and general manager in various industries at IBM; to group CIO and member of the Executive Board of both Novartis and also Deutsche Telekom. Peter is also an entrepreneur being co-owner and CTO of Avaloq (core banking SW developer), and also founder, owner and CEO of itcps Management Consulting AG. He serves on the Boards of Directors of several companies, most notably the Swiss Post. Peter has also received several awards and was voted Best CIO / IT Executive of the Year 2003 in Europe (Computerwoche / CIO Magazine).
Andrew McDonald - President of IP Platforms, Alcatel-Lucent
Andrew is President Alcatel-Lucent’s Platforms Division and is responsible for the company’s Advanced Communications, Customer Experience, Payment, Policy& Charging, CloudBand, Network Intelligence, Application Enablement and Mobile Commerce solutions.

Based in Canada, Andrew joined Alcatel through the acquisition of Newbridge Networks and became Vice President and General Manager of Alcatel’s Network and Service Management (NSM) Product Unit, responsible for both the IP and Wireless Network Management portfolios.

Prior to that, Andrew worked for the consulting firm, American Management Systems and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Howard Watson – Managing Director, Global IT Platforms, BT
Howard is BT Managing Director for architecture and global IT platforms with over 30 years of telecoms experience. Based in the UK, Howard was previously Managing Director at Business and Technology consultant Cartesian; Chief Information and Technology Officer at Virgin Media and CTO at Telewest.
He also has strong experience in innovating and delivering transformational products in the cable industry including telephony, digital TV, video on demand, high definition TV and ‘ultra’ high speed broadband. Howard is passionate about technology and innovation, and bringing transformational products to market.
Craig Young – Chief Information Officer, Verizon
Craig is Senior Vice President and CIO of Network Systems for Verizon where he is responsible for all IT systems supporting residential, enterprise and wholesale network services around the world.

Based in the USA, Craig previously served as Vice President of Consumer Commerce for Verizon Wireless where he spearheaded the company’s omni-channel strategy and evolution of Verizon’s self-service and sales systems capabilities across Verizon’s retail stores, agents and telesales etc. including application development, fraud detection systems and commissions systems.

He has received widespread industry recognition for his innovative approach to applying technology, being selected for Computerworld’s “Top 40 Under 40, named in CIO Magazine’s “Ones to Watch,” and recognized by Computerworld magazine as one of its “Premier 100” IT professionals and the Verizon Wireless Chairman’s award.

Returning Directors:

Mark Francis, Vice President – Global Network Operations, AT&T
Mark's responsibilities include Global Network Operations Planning for AT&T’s wireline and wireless networks worldwide, Network Emergency Management Network Disaster Recovery and Information Management. In addition to providing day-to-day project and process management support for the Network Operations Centers, Mark also provides strategic planning in areas like LTE, Cloud and special projects like TDM Transformation. Based in the USA, his role charts the course for delivering proactive network management and command oversight of network infrastructure, network technology elements, operational support applications/systems, work centers, and data centers across multiple AT&T business units and lines of business. In addition, Mark is responsible for network continuity, contingency planning, and disaster recovery of AT&T Network Services infrastructure worldwide including voice, data services, and humanitarian relief deployments for wireline and wireless networks.

Previous to this position, Mark was the Vice President of AT&T’s Global Network Operations Center (GNOC) , most sophisticated command-and-control center of its kind in the world and provides incident command, network risk management, performance reporting, regulatory compliance reporting, and executive notification for all AT&T Networks.

Alfred Hitchcock, Group Chief Information Officer, Vodafone
Albert is Group Chief Information Officer at Vodafone where he is responsible for the Vodafone Technology Information Services Organisation within Vodafone and its Operating Companies. Based in the UK, Albert is accountable for the IT Strategy and the Operations of all IT functions across the group.

Prior to joining Vodafone, Albert was Global CIO with Nortel and lived in the US and Canada and prior to that in a variety of R&D and Engineering roles with Racal Radio Group LTD and British Aerospace Dynamics PLC .

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology- FIET and a Chartered Engineer, and in September 2006 was named to the Information Week list of most innovative users of IT.

Monte Hong, Managing Director, Communications Industry, Accenture
Monte leads Accenture’s global Communications industry practice within Accenture’s Communications, Media & Technology operating group. In this role, Monte oversees the development of Accenture’s strategies and capabilities for serving the wireline, wireless and cable segments, including most of the world’s largest service providers. Based in Singapore, Monte additionally leads Accenture’s Asia Pacific Communications Industry practice across a dynamic and hyper growth market.

With 26 years of experience with Accenture, Monte has deep expertise in the Communications industry specializing in large-scale business and IT transformation programs for telecommunications companies. Spearheading many successful client initiatives, Monte led critical transformation work at Telstra and is currently driving Accenture’s customer care and billing transformation program at Telekom Malaysia.

He is experienced in the planning, design, implementation and deployment of customer relationship management, customer care, billing, network activation, and operational support systems.

Dr. Che Haiping – Chief Technology Officer, Huawei Software
Haiping’s responsibilities include Service Delivery Platforms, Business and Operational Support Systems; value added applications, core network and IT. He joined in Huawei on July 1997 and has participated in development of 2G/3G mobile Core Network (CS/PS/IMS), VAS Enablers(SMSC/IN), Prepaid Solution, etc., He is based in China. Prior to this Haiping was Vice President of Huawei’s Wireless Product Line and Head of the Wireless Core Network Department.

Haiping was awarded the First Grade Prize of China National Technology Advancement.

Scott Stainken, General Manager, Global Telecommunications Industry, IBM
Scott is the General Manager of Global Telecommunications across the IBM Corporation where he is responsible for the strategy, solution offerings and development of the overall ecosystem. Based in the USA, one of Scott’s key priorities is helping IBM’s telecommunications clients transform within a converging ecosystem of communications, media, information technology, and consumer electronics. IBM is committed to enable transformation via open standards based frameworks and innovation in key areas such as advanced analytics, Big Data, cloud, and mobility.

Scott has over 28 years’ experience in the Information Technology and Telecommunications industries and held a variety of global leadership positions including: General Manager Wireless, responsible for IBM’s worldwide mobility initiatives, and Vice President Sales Global Telecommunications. He has broad international experience living in Korea, Japan, and Spain and in multiple states within the US.

Dean Walters - Chief Information Officer and Managing Director, UPC Liberty Global
Dean is the group CIO at Liberty Global, the world’s largest international cable company, active in 14 countries. He is based in the Netherlands and has over 10 years of service within the Liberty Global group. Prior to his group role, Dean served as the Chief Information and Technology Officer for satellite TV operator AUSTAR in Australia where he was responsible for Broadcast Technology, Product Development, and all facets of technologies enabling Customer Care. He also held key business roles during his tenure in the Customer Operations and Credit Services areas. Dean has over 30 years engineering and management experience in the Information, Technology and Telecommunications industry.

Hans Wijayasuriya, Group Chief Executive Dialog Axiata PLC Sri Lanka & CEO Axiata Digital Services, Axiata Group Malaysia
Hans combines the roles of CEO of Axiata’ s Dialog subsidiary in Sri Lanka with In group-wide role of Axiata Digital Services – the group wide Digital Services Business of Axiata Group.

Axiata is Asia’s second largest telecommunications group with operations in Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Cambodia, India and Singapore.

Hans is also Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Engineering Technology UK and holds an MBA from the University of Warwick UK. He previously served as Chairman of GSM Asia Pacific representing 22 Asia Pacific member countries and is a recipient of the CIMA-Janashakthi Business Leader of the Year Award, and was named the ‘Sri Lankan of the Year’.
