TM Forum Revolutionizes Benchmarking with Business Metrics Automation

MORRISTOWN, NJ—October 26, 2011—Today the TM Forum unveiled the next stage of its ground-breaking Business Metrics Automation program by launching the Business Metrics Automation Certification program which enables software suppliers to gain an independent assessment of their solutions’ conformance to the TM Forum Frameworx Business Metrics standards. This new program speeds service providers’ ability to access reliable, real-time benchmarking data and performance analytics, and reduces the time and cost of the overall procurement process by allowing them to easily select products that conform to TM Forum standards.

The Business Metrics Automation Certification program certifies that a software supplier’s product is able to interact securely with the TM Forum Business Benchmarking database, including uploading data for the specified standard metrics in the correct format, generating queries, and downloading the query results for use in embedded product dashboards.

Unlike vendor-specific or proprietary solutions, Business Metrics Automation conformant solutions provide data for industry standard metrics, enabling meaningful comparative data and ensuring consistent, ‘apples-to-apples’ comparisons for both benchmarking studies and internal dashboards. This standardization allows service providers to reduce costs significantly by automating manual data collection process.

Certified products receive TM Forum’s Certification Mark and the assessment results are posted on the Business Metrics Automation website.

“Benchmarking has always been a time-consuming effort and as a result is done infrequently,” said Nancee Ruzicka, Director, OSS/BSS Global Competitive Strategies at Stratecast. “By procuring Business Metrics Automation software with standard metrics and automated data collection and transmission, service providers will be able to monitor their performance with the click of a mouse. They can then focus on analyzing the comparative data and making decisions, not on collecting the data.”

“In today’s hyper-competitive market, easy and consistent access to accurate, competitive data is critical to a service provider’s success,” said Tonia Graham, Executive Decision Support Program Manager, TM Forum. “The Business Metrics Automation program enables instant, real-time access to essential statistics that allow service providers to compare their business and operational performance against the rest of the industry. Our new certification program complements the program by allowing service providers to select products that will simplify their processes and increase the quantity and quality of their comparative data.”

Through the Business Metrics Automation program, launched at Management World Dublin in May, TM Forum works with software suppliers to incorporate its standardized Business Metrics into products and solutions, allowing service providers to automatically upload metric data into the TM Forum Business Benchmark Database rather than collating and entering that data manually. To date, TM Forum has defined 101 industry standard metrics as part of its Business Performance Measurement System.

Suppliers actively involved in the program since its launch at Management World Dublin in May, include: Clarity, cVidya, HP, Oracle, Subex, and WeDo Technologies. In addition, certified products will be featured at Management World Americas 2011, November 8-10 at The Peabody Hotel in Orlando, Fla.
