London, Philadelphia, Paris, Brussels and Frankfurt – May 2009
The adoption of the TM Forum’s Business Process Framework, also known as eTOM, continues to
increase within the information, communications, and entertainment industry. As a result, a need has
arisen to provide guidance the practical use of the framework and how the framework can be extended and/or modified for use.
Casewise® and the TM Forum are therefore delighted to announce the launch of eTOM - A Business Process Framework Implementer’s Guide. The guide provides a review of the Business Process Framework, a typical implementation approach, a set of guidelines for extending the framework and a series of case studies for demonstrating uses of the framework. As sponsors, Casewise are privileged to be associated and to have worked on the production of the guide with authors and TM Forum’s Distinguished Fellows John P Reilly and Mike Kelly.
Casewise has a long and established association with the TM Forum, and serves as the official custodian of the eTOM model. Developed using Casewise’s highly regarded modeling tool Corporate Modeler, the eTOM model serves as a blueprint for process direction and provides a neutral reference point for internal process reengineering needs, partnerships, alliances, and general working agreements with other telecommunication providers. By utilizing the model, telecom organizations can adopt the framework to model, analyze, integrate and streamline their own operations.
Corporate Modeler has been at the core of the eTOM team’s framework development; the resulting model
of which has been made available for use across a wide variety of operating environments. Through the implementation of Corporate Modeler, the eTOM team has been able to utilize the various publishing options the tool has to offer as well as being able to handle the expanding scope, detail and control.
Most recently, the eTOM work has examined interaction with other process-oriented frameworks such as ITIL, and there has been mutually beneficial interaction between Casewise and the TM Forum in developing a worked approach that shows how these can be complementary and compatible.
The eTOM model has a direct correlation with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library)
which Casewise has also successfully mapped and documented. Both frameworks are concerned with
the management of services and their delivery to the customer. Both models are complementary, compatible and mutually supportive and each has its own strengths which can be used to complement and support
the other.
Given the increase in the adoption of the eTOM framework, the eTOM - A Business Process Framework Implementer’s Guide has been produced so as to enlighten readers and demonstrate the benefits towards using the eTOM model and how it can make an immediate and practical difference to an enterprise.
The guide also includes an evaluation copy of the Casewise Corporate Modeler Suite 2009.1 so readers can see for themselves the tools extensive capabilities.
To obtain a free copy of the guide, be amongst one of the first 100 visitors to the Casewise booth (#119) on each day of Management World 2009.
