Service Delivery Framework (SDF)

Empowering Service Providers With Service Lifecycle Management

Overview

As Service Providers strive to achieve agile service delivery, they need a mechanism by which they can integrate all the functions required in a service’s lifecycle.

The goal of the TM Forum’s Service Delivery Framework (SDF) is to define a generic management framework for next generation services regardless of the software or network technologies used to implement those services. This management framework is aimed at addressing the full lifecycle of the services, from concept to cash.

The Service Delivery Framework defines a reference model that consists of the essential building blocks that need to be put in place in order to provide a managed SDF Service environment.

Delivery of next generation services happens in a framework where the lines between network and IT are blurred. Within this framework, profitability as well as customer experience can be driven by managing the complete service lifecycle in a Service Oriented ArchitectureA computer systems architectural style for creating and using business processes packaged as services (SOA) aligned environment.

Current Deliverables

Service Delivery Framework (SDF) Charter, Phase III defines a management framework enabling effective service delivery in the context of emerging industry trends such as Web 2.0 and converged services.

Business Agreement (TMF 519) addresses the requirements for the flexible and efficient Service Lifecycle Management of next-generation services. It includes Business Objectives, Technical Principles and categorizes requirements for Infrastructure; Managed Entities; Management; Functional Capabilities; Support for Customer, Supplier and Partner relationships.

Service Delivery Framework Overview, Release 2.0 (TR139) identifies the necessity for the Service Delivery Framework (SDF) Program, with the objective of providing a reference in the industry for management of “next generation services."

Service Delivery Framework - Industry Groups Positioning Document Version 2.0 (TR141) contains the summary of the information gathered and agreed upon by all parties concerned. Various items for possible collaborative work are identified in the individual sections which address the contributions from each Industry Group. In addition there are some overall collaborative views expressed in a “Conclusions” section at the end of the document

Service Delivery Framework Business Agreement, Version 1.1 (TMF519) documents the business objectives and the business requirements of the framework. This document (and all its requirements) is intentionally designed and produced as “agnostic” to existing standards and guidelines.

TM Forum - Service Delivery Framework (SDF) Industry Groups – shared documents has been created for collaboration among Industry Groups who are working with TM Forum on Service Delivery Framework developments. All documents in this space are provided by Industry Groups who consider that the supply of their documentation is essential for the further development of SDF.

Catalysts

The demonstration projects below have done work related to the Service Delivery Framework area and their results are being included in the team’s work

Product & Service Assembly Catalyst
This catalyst sets out to take a typical OSS/BSS functional architecture and show how dynamic product and service creation can be achieved with little or no impact on customer or network facing systems, therefore reducing costs and time to market.

NGN OSS Blueprint
A standards-based ‘blueprint’ is created for the service delivery OSS—the goal of which is dynamic and rapidly changing converged services. The solution spans the full circle, from service creation through to product catalog representation, ordering, fulfillment, and subscriber parameter management and usage.

Accelerating VoIP and IMS based Services (AVIS)
This project brings together the industry’s leading vendors to architect, build, and test a full end-to-end service fulfillment, delivery, and assurance environment based on the IMS and Service Oriented ArchitectureA computer systems architectural style for creating and using business processes packaged as services. Using proven off-the-shelf components, the system implements the real-world SDP to provide a SIP-based VoIP service to the end users.
