This suite is made up of a number of documents.  The primary documents include:

TR133

The TMF has stated that it wants to be leading the industry in developing and implementing Management Solutions for Next Generation Networks. This paper explores what that means, and provides recommendations on where the TMF efforts need to be focused, and those areas where relationships with other groups need to be pro-actively developed.

The approach adopted has been to identify the NGN business challenges/drivers and to derive from them the NGN management requirements. These requirements have been used to identify the drivers and issues for NGN Management.

These drivers and issues, in conjunction with an assessment of TMF Unique Differentiators and member priorities have been used to create recommendations to the TMF for concrete actions in meeting the above goal

TR133ep

This document covers the proposed execution plan for delivering the recommendations in TR133 for Next Generation Networks: Management. This report identified numerous issues that need to be addressed many of which require a change of TMF team organization and focus.

In particular the proposal recommends two significant changes of practice to TMF Technical teams:

  • Introduction of an explicit TMF Product Management Function, supported, where appropriate, by Product Planning Councils, that is accountable for defining the product roadmaps aligned with the TMF Technical Strategy, product features, and managing their delivery in to the TMF Marketing Program.
  • Introduction of Product Planning Councils supporting the Product Management Function that are each responsible for delivering a subset of the Roadmap Products e.g. specifications and other artifacts that can be used in procurement, or directly by developers, and can compliance tested.

These proposals focus on the needs of NGN Management however the Product Management recommendations can be adopted for other TMF program needs.
