Certification FAQs

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions about TM Forum Knowledge Certification and Career Certification. Please contact education@tmforum.org with any additional questions.

Q. Which TM Forum courses should I attend to obtain Certification?
If you would like to grow beyond Level 1-4 Knowledge Certification, with the advent of the Career Certification enhancement to the Knowledge Certification program, the answer to that question can be found by simply looking up your primary role and finding the associated path on the Career Certification page. For example, if you are in a Business Process Modeler role, you should attend are Frameworx Overview, Business Process Framework Distilled, Business Process Framework Implementer’ s Workshop and Business Process Framework mapping to ITIL.

Q. Is my Business Process Framework Level 2 certification still relevant?
Absolutely. The addition of Career Certification just means that with Level 2 certification, you are well on your way to achieving the Career Certification title of Business Process Modeler, Information Modeler, Business Support Specialist, etc.

Q. Is a new exam required to become Career Certified in a certain area?
No. The Career Certification is awarded at the end of the process of having attended all the required courses and successfully passing the appropriate Knowledge Level certification exams.
Q. Will there be an additional cost to become Career Certified?
No. It is a status awarded after the required training and testing has been completed.
Q. Why should I bother with Career Certification?
Career Certification, like Knowledge Certification, is an independent assessment of your expertise in the relevant TM Forum Framework area which is recognized within the industry.
Q. How long do I have to complete a Career Certification track?
From the first course certification exam until the last course in the Career track, the duration should not exceed eighteen months.
Q. Once I have my Certification, how long is it valid?
Certification for an individual is valid for at least 2 years. Once the two years are over, in order to maintain your Certification, you need to take a refresher exam which will capture latest additions in the standard and best practices.

Q. Is passing the Frameworx level-2 exam equivalent to passing both the the Business Process Framework (eTOM) and Information Framework (SID) level-2 exams?
No, each of these exams is separate and must be passed to receive the relevant subject matter certification.Q. Do I have to attend a TM Forum course before I am able to pass a test? Or is it enough that I'm working in an appropriate team?
You MUST attend the relevant training course. The exams test the student on course content (as well as real-world experience for level-4 exams).
Q. Are there any samples of questions and answers available?
Sample questions can be found here. Sample answers are not provided. The questions are multiple choice.
Q. What are the specific documents / information / course materials I need to study prior to taking the exam?
The level-2 introductory exams: (1) Frameworx, (2) Business Process Framework (eTOM) and (3) Information Framework (SID) test the student on the knowledge imparted in the (level-1) course, with little or no existing knowledge of the subjects required in advance.

The level-4 intermediate exams: (1) Business Process Framework (eTOM) and (2) Information Framework (SID) test the student on the knowledge imparted in the course as well as on real-world experience and knowledge of the relevant framework. This is why there is a minimum three-month waiting time from the time of attend the workshop to sitting the exam. Delegates should have a solid knowledge of the relevant framework documentation. Business Process Framework documents can be found here, while Information Framework documents can be found here.

Q. Are sample papers available?
We do not share past papers.Q. How many times may I repeat the exam?
Your original payment entitles you to take the exam twice.

If you are unsuccessful on two occasions then you must wait at least six months before you may re-apply to sit the exam (you must also pay again).

The questions are selected randomly so you will not have the same question repeated every time you take the test.
Q. Is certification awarded to an individual or a company?
Certification is only given to an individual, but that certification is dependent on the corporate membership of the individual's company with the TM Forum being maintained.
