Getting to Dublin Dublin is served by Dublin Airport, which is located twelve kilometers north of the city centre. There are bus, taxi and car transportation links to the city center from the airport. Bus service from the airport is Airlink route 747 to the Central Bus Station (BusAras) and O'Connolly St. The cost for a one-way trip from the airport is 6 €, and can take up to 45 minutes. The bus departs Dublin Airport just outside the main arrival hall. Aircoach is another bus that leaves from the airport to the Dublin City Centre. Aircoach is more of a luxury coach service and tickets can be purchased ahead of time.
A taxi rank is provided just outside the arrivals hall at Dublin Airport. Approximate fare to the city centre is 25-35 €. However, there are charges for additional passengers, and if traveling between 8pm and 8am or on Sundays / Public Holidays. Ask the taxi driver in advance if you have any questions. The Dublin tram system is called the LUAS. It is a state of the art light rail transit system with high capacity, high frequency and high speed services. The Luas runs on two tramlines:
- The Green Line – connecting Sandyford to St. Stephen’s Green – journey time approximately twenty-two minutes.
- The Red Line – connecting Tallaght to Connolly train station – journey time approximately forty-six minutes. The two lines do not connect.

Dublin Bus operates the city’s bus routes. Depending on the location, buses run from 06.30-23.30. A late service called Nitelink operates after these hours Monday-Saturday on certain routes. Dublin taxis have no distinctive color but are easily identified by their official roof signs. Three of the main taxi ranks in the city centre are located on O’Connell Street, College Green and at St. Stephen’s Green. It is also possible to hail taxis on the street and numerous private taxi companies also operate throughout Dublin. - Make a copy of your passport, and pack it in a place separate from where you are carrying the original.
- Leave a copy of your itinerary with family or friends at home.
- Be especially cautious at crowded subways, train stations, bus stations, tourist sites, market places, festivals, and crime-ridden neighborhoods.
- Don't use short cuts, narrow alleys, or poorly lit streets.
- Try not to travel alone at night- if you have no choice, let a colleague know where you are going.
- Avoid public demonstrations and other personal matters with strangers.
- Try not to wear conspicuous clothing and expensive jewelry, and do not carry excessive amounts of money or unnecessary credit cards
- Familiarize yourself with emergency exits and procedures at the venue, and your hotel
