In the telecom business these days, the buzz is all about the “Lean Operator” -- the goal of automating business processes while serving customers with the ultimate in flexibility and choice. NGOSS is the telecom industry’s only true standard for development and deployment of OSS/BSS (Operations/Business Support Systems) that are easy to integrate, flexible, and easy to manage throughout their lifecycle. The TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) is at the heart of NGOSS. It provides the only standardized way within the telecoms industry to capture business processes. The TM Forum Information Framework (SID) provides the tools and language to model corporate data from the highest level right down to inclusion in software solutions.

NGOSS Distilled - available May 25th at 09:00 (to 17:00 approx.)

Course Description (NGOSS Distilled):
This course is intended to provide students with an over view of the NGOSS framework and its key components: the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM), the TM Forum Information Framework (SID), the technology neutral architecture and the application map. The course contains a suite of new practical exercises to help the assimilation of these topics. The course will cover the NGOSS lifecycle and recent work in the area of compliance but it will not provide a step by step deployment methodology.

Intended for: OSS/BSS professionals who are involved in developing BSS/OSS solutions using NGOSS methodologies. These include: Solution architects, analysts, modelers, developers, and integrators.

Pre-requisites: None

Length: One day

Technology Being Taught: NGOSS at an introductory level.

Highlights: This course covers all aspects of TeleManagement Forum’s (TM Forum) NGOSS toolkit. Comprehensive practical examples of NGOSS usage from companies such as Motorola, Intelliden and Metasolv are included in the course.

Upon completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify all the components of NGOSS and the relationship between them;
  • Understand NGOSS lifecycle and methodology;
  • Understand basic concepts of Business Process Framework (eTOM) and the TM Forum Information Framework (SID), and their relationship to NGOSS Understand NGOSS architecture (Technology-Neutral and Technology-Specific).

Agenda:

  • TM-Forum and NGOSS overview;
  • NGOSS core elements;
  • NGOSS methodology and lifecycle;
  • NGOSS compliance and conformance;
  • NGOSS practical work is dispersed through the day.

Course Description (TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) Distilled):
The TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) is at the heart of NGOSS. It provides the only standardized way within the telecoms industry to capture business processes. This course sets out to provide the attendee with a big picture view of the Business Process Framework (eTOM) and its use in business process transformation. The student will hear how the framework has been used in successful projects and will take part in practical exercises aimed at enhancing the knowledge gained in the course.

Intended for: OSS/BSS professionals including: business managers, enterprise solution architects, process practitioners (managers, developers, and implementers), and solution providers.

Pre-requisites
: A general awareness of the TM Forum and its work; General recognition of business process modeling as an aid to understanding and improving business operation

Length:
One day

Technology Being Taught:
The course aims to provide an overview of TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) and some high level views on its deployment. It provides the student with information from which they can assess their own deployment business case. It does not provide the student with a deployment methodology.

Upon completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Identify all the components of the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM);
  • Understand the role of the Business Process Framework (eTOM) within an enterprise, and the benefits of using it;
  • Recognize what is required for the framework to be extended to meet enterprise needs;
  • Understand how Business Process Framework (eTOM)process decomposition is used to “drill down” to lower levels (“Level 2”);
  • Recognize the relationships between the framework and various other models (NGOSS, TM Forum Information Framework (SID), TMN, ITIL);
  • Understand the necessary steps for decomposing a business process problem and apply the framework to solving it.

Agenda:

  • TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) overview;
  • Business Process Framework (eTOM) Level one processes;
  • Process decomposition and process flows;
  • Introducing the eTOM into your organization;
  • Business Process Framework (eTOM) in action;
  • Business Process Framework (eTOM) and other standards;
  • Business Process Framework (eTOM) practical work

Course Description (TM Forum Information Framework (SID) Distilled):
This course provides an overview of NGOSS and three of its cornerstones: the TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM), the TM Forum Information Framework (SID), and the Technology-Neutral Architecture. It demonstrates the inherent and strong relationships between the Information Framework (SID) and the overall NGOSS architecture and demonstrates how the framework is used as the ‘Language’ of NGOSS. The framework is explained in detail and students are taken on a guided tour of the currently developed Information Framework (SID) domains.

Intended for: People actively engaged in the analysis and design of OSS/BSS solutions using NGOSS and the TM Forum Information Framework (SID), in particular, people involved in information modeling and solution architectures.

Pre-requisites:
Familiarity with UML or other modeling methods desirable; however a UML tutorial is provided if necessary.

Length:
One day

Technology Being Taught:
The TM Forum Information Framework (SID) is the lingua franca for NGOSS. It is used to define in business and systems terms, the information that is utilized in OSS/BSS deployments. The framework in its UML form is explained using real-world examples.

Upon completion, delegates will be able to:

  • Describe the need and benefits of NGOSS;
  • Describe the relationship between the TM Forum Information Framework (SID) and the NGOSS architecture;
  • Provide an overview of the Information Framework (SID);
  • Use one or more Information Framework (SID) addenda for reference in the analysis and design phases of a solution;
  • Apply Information Framework (SID) modeling patterns to extend the framework;
  • Begin to use the framework for real analyses and development of OSS/BSS components.

Agenda:

  • NGOSS and the TM Forum Information Framework (SID);
  • The TM Forum Information Framework (SID);
  • Documenting the framework;
  • TM Forum Information Framework (SID)/TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) mappings and their importance;
  • Scenario-based Information Framework (SID) walkthrough;
  • Getting started with the framework;
