Bouygues Telecom, Bull, JDSU, Axiros and the Broadband Forum are working together on this Catalyst project, which is exploring how to drive down the cost of delivering IPTV.
Jean Schmitt, marketing director, service assurance solutions, JDSU, explains, “The configuration and monitoring of a service enables us to collect, aggregate and analyze the root cause of any problem, and deal with it quickly, as well as upsell more services. The same applies to other services too, such as VoIP and Internet access.”
The monitoring is undertaken using a supplier-agnostic, standards-based approach. Schmitt continues, “This Catalyst has built a bridge between the work of the Broadband Forum and TM Forum. Interoperability between the two is key, and despite good progress, there is still work to do.”
He adds, “We need to map the work of the two Forums – what the Broadband Forum designates TR 131 is not [Interface Program] MTOSI-compliant. And we need to map the two together if they are going to be compliant with TM Forum’s standards in the upper layers and the Broadband Forum’s work at the infrastructure and network level,” in the interests of operational efficiency now and in the future.
The Driving the Costs Out of IPTV Catalyst will be on view in Forumville on the third level of the Acropolis Convention Center until 7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
