This document discusses the real-life challenge that Telecommunication industry faces when it comes to providing complete end-to-end OSS solution using standards that address:
- Network technology layer interface standardization and
- OSS interface standardization.
This document is intended for those people in Telecommunication industry who deal with End-to-End OSS integration involving various COTs products, EMS/NMS systems and underlying Networks. This document is very much useful for Solution Designers / Architects working in IT departments of Telecommunication organizations, SIs, ISVs, EMS / NMS vendors. The reader of this document is expected to be familiar with following:
- OSS environment in Telecommunication Industry
- OSS through Java [OSS / J] Initiative
- OSS / J Core Business Entities [CBE]
- TMF Multi-Technology Network Management [MTNM]
- OSS Solution Architecture.
This document provides a high level overview of MTNM and CBE and then describes the challenge and how the challenge is met. The document concludes with a case study, which presents a solution to the problem.
This document does not discuss TMF Forum’s MTOSI effort which is defining a unified open interface to be used between the OSS. Efforts are underway to harmonize the OSS/J and MTOSI initiatives. A further phase of the concepts discussed here would focus on the harmonization of the very similar yet complimenting standards which are striving for standardization of the OSS interfaces for the Transport Technologies.
