The Insider -
A great article entitled ‘Our phones may too smart for our own good’ appeared in the Australian ‘Sun-Herald’ over the weekend that hit a nerve with The Insider. Writer, Andrew Daddo, exclaimed, “Intellectually, I understand all the great things this phone (iPhone 4S) and other smartphones can do. The concern is what they’re doing to us. The smarter they get, the dumber we’re letting ourselves become.” The crux of Andrew’s observations was that... -
The Insider has sighted news reports stating that Spanish telecom giant, Telefónica, has entered into a strategic partnership with China Unicom. That news is not really surprising because in 2009, China Unicom agreed to a US$1 billion cross-holding with Telefónica and in January 2011, the two partners agreed on a further $500 million tie-up in each other, which following completion in late 2011, Telefónica will hold a 9.7 percent stake in China Unicom, while China Unicom will... -
For all those U.S. operators hoping that mobile payments and mobile banking will become lucrative revenue streams with an associated stickiness factor in the coming years, they may have to think again. If a report published recently by Lightspeed is indicative of the mood of the American public, the vast majority really ‘don’t give a damn!’ Not satisfied with just surveying 10,000 ordinary people, Lightspeed targeted existing bank customers and found that only about one-third were... -
The Insider attended the Mobile Asia Congress in Hong Kong this week. It is supposed to be the Asian version of the wildly successful annual pilgrimage to Barcelona, otherwise known as the Mobile World Congress, but it pales in comparison. Not because of the conference agenda, per se, but mainly because it does not attract anywhere near the number of attendees, exhibitors or industry celebrities critical for successful networking. It would be fair to say that the GSMA has struggled to establish MAC... -
Telcos around the world have been reporting rather mixed earnings results over the last few weeks. There do not appear to be any distinct patterns emerging and the headlines vary from extremes of ‘revenues up, profits down’ to ‘to revenues down, but profits up due to cost savings’, etc. If you happen to be a multinational player the excuse for any swing in revenues/margins will almost certainly be put down to ‘currency fluctuations.’ The constant pressure to appease... -
Just how important is the 'revenue management' department to the C-suite? According to a group debating the subject intensively at Management World Americas - very! Gone are the days that 'revenue management' (RM) simply meant billing and collections. Today, RM extends all the way back to the source of any chargeable service, its accurate and timely delivery, accurate and timely billing and verification of all those functions. However, it's the data generated at each of these... -
The burgeoning mobile content industry in Indonesia has been brought to its knees by a moratorium imposed the Indonesia Telecommunication Regulatory Body (BRTI) and the Ministry of Communication. The action has effectively stopped all sales of premium mobile content over the existing mobile networks and stems from a spate of consumer complaints, in excess of 9,000, over the suspicious and unaccountable loss of pre-paid credit balances. Mobile phone content providers called for better regulation following... | | Paid Advertisement | | | | | Copyright © 1988-2012, TeleManagement Forum. All Rights Reserved | | | | | |
