Everywhere I look, I see clouds and virtualization mentioned together. They seem to be the peanut butter and jelly of the technology world. Certainly, clouds and virtualization taste good together, but surely we can separate them, right? Can you build... UPDATE Jan 26, 2012: Added governance to the list of forces driving private clouds. This year, I was asked to chair the Private Clouds track at Cloud Connect. Over the past couple weeks, I have been working to nail down all the last little details and... Today seems like OASIS TOSCA day in my world. First thing this morning, Sam Johnston (@samj) Tweeted some suspicion towards TOSCA. Ben Kepes (@benkepes) also blogged his thoughts about TOSCA. I sent Sam a quick “+1″ reply this morning (@sandhillstrat... -
Interesting article on the potential of M2M to grow to a $1.2trillion market by 2020 I like the " Connected life " phrase they are using. Much more along the lines of how I see the future industry than the phrases we have been using for the past couple of years - such as "Telco 2.0" . This goes far beyond anything that old Telco can do by itself, and even viewing the opportunity through the lens of Telco is fatally flawed. This new services industry is all about understanding... -
The Insider’s blog on Amazon’s cloud mishap was certainly not intended to scare off would-be cloud customers but the episode most certainly scared some off those enterprises directly affected. The lessons learnt for this fledgeling sector should be invaluable especially to the relative new-comers in the form of CSPs offering IaaS, PaaS, CaaS and SaaS. Carol Wilson, from Light Reading put it most eloquently when she wrote, “that telecom service providers also face a real challenge... -
Amazon’s ignominious dumping of WikiLeaks as a customer almost went unnoticed, except by The Insider , and a few others, including the venerable Wall Street Journal. Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security committee had contacted Amazon after accusing WikiLeaks of illegal, outrageous and reckless acts, compromising national security and putting scores of lives at risk. At the time, Senator Lieberman said that he would be asking Amazon about the extent of... -
In last week’s blog , we looked at the term “Service Broker” for the communications industry. Two contexts were highlighted: 1) the network service broker, and 2) services brokerage business models. Today, we examine the same term in an emerging context of cloud computing. Similar to the defined network service broker, the cloud service broker is beginning to take an early form. In Gartner’s recent press release and report last month, Gartner identified three forms of cloud service brokers. - Intermediation... -
With the June 24 TM Forum webinar and Team Action Week sessions ( interest groups , SDF next phase ), we’ve announced a direction and priority scope for the TM Forum’s Enabling New Services Initiative . Work remains to be done in tuning it and our execution plans, but it feels great to me to now be started. The initiative includes a dual focus: product trading between businesses (e.g., part of B2B space), and management of new enabling services. On July 13, industry visionary Alan Quayle blogged... -
“The Cloud” has given us far too many metaphors. And most of us have overused them, peppering our discussions, presentations and blogs – all too often over-reaching for an apt image. At TM Forum Management World, a new one arose. Arguing that “it’s time to make it rain,” Deutsche Bank’s Sean Kelley, global asset management CIO and head of DB’s platform services, asked assembled suppliers and providers to accelerate the “rain” – the results of the Cloud. Keying off the American image of “rainmaker... -
The worlds of consumer apps and cloud computing will converge for service providers. Most consumers “downstream” in the apps value network care less about techno cloud talk, they just want a personalized, reliable, inexpensive, and simple experience on their various screens and devices. Yet, on the upstream side of the service provider's business model, app providers (and the technical developers that make them) are increasingly needing services from the cloud. It's at this point that app... | | Paid Advertisement | | | | | Copyright © 1988-2012, TeleManagement Forum. All Rights Reserved | | | | | |
