Hello again,
First an admission. I'm not a great reader of other people's blogs. I don't twitter and have no intention of networking with anyone on Facebook (socially or otherwise). I like my socializing face to face, preferably over a beer, and if I have to embarrass myself I do it in front of a few people as possible.
What I do do though, is use community groups to find out more about anything that I'm particularly interested in, or if I have a problem that cannot be solved locally in the real world - finding a part for a broken lawnmower or discovering why my spell-checker stopped working when I upgraded to Office 2007 - incidentally that one is still current so if anyone has any ideas.....
At the other end of the scale I think that there is a real danger of opinion being interpreted as fact. There were several instances of this in our recent U.K. Government election where a politician's off-the-cuff remark in the afternoon was presented as Party Policy in the evening news. It's easy then for misinformation to circulate or the seeds of doubt to be sewn and of course, that is why information needs to be checked from a number of sources before an accurate opinion can be formed.
This can also be the case in a training session where a trainer's personal experience or a case study can highlight an aspect an make it appear more important than another. So no matter where information comes from, blog, training course or social network, it is important to get as complete a range of thought and opinion as possible before accepting what you have heard of as fact.
Our industry's largest Community Group - Management World Nice, is just around the corner. There you will find all of the social networking, training, presentations and discussions you will ever need to find out what is really happening in our industry. So if you really want to know, come along and find out.
See you in Nice!
