Who trains the trainer?

Share |
Hello everyone,

A lion tamer's first day at work will most probably be his last if he does not get some pretty good instructions on what to do before he gets into the cage with the lions. This is a principle we follow quite closely here in the training department, before and after we let our trainers get into the metaphorical lion's den of a training class.

Trainee trainers go through a series of stages before we let them loose on a live audience. Potential trainers are selected from those subject-matter experts who are actively involved in the appropriate Community Group. Subsequently they sit-in on training classes, leading a class of their own but supported by an approved trainer and, if successful, eventually gaining "Approved Trainer" status.

I'm here in Bonn this week at a training roadshow, during the week we are running a series of courses starting with an overview of Frameworx and then splitting into two streams, one each for the Business Process Framework and the Information Framework - a total of 5 courses over the 5 day period. (checkout the training  website for a roadshow near you) .

Over the week we have  a total of 4 trainers, not because 2 are likely to be eaten and we need a couple of spares (although I have not yet seen John Reilly's menu for the week) , but because our training staff sit-in on each other's courses on a regular basis learning from each other as they do.

It's not enough just to know the subject. trainers have to be aware of the different perspectives that listening to another trainer can bring and incorporating them into their presentation style.

Our aim is to offer students blend of knowlege and experience to make the experience as valuable as possible - and, of course, to avoid being eaten!

 'till next time

Cheers

Andrew
