Next Generation Order Orchestration: Dream or Future Reality?

In the quest for maximum customer retention, CSPs are already facing the need to support an avalanche of new “heterogeneous” products and services ranging from voice, data, entertainment, content, and location-based services, packaged in bundles and provisioned both by the CSPs and their partners. In addition, IP technology preferences are crystallizing: some CSPs have announced plans to migrate to IMS, while others are content with supporting SIP or peer-to-peer IP offerings. Due to the lack of a single unified approach, the next generation hybrid BSS/OSS may not exist for some time to come.

Consequently, providers will face a new challenge: supporting order orchestration in a “hybrid” BSS/OSS with a significant increase in the complexity of ordering, potentially increasing order fall-out and costs. Successful order management and provisioning is a key to the introduction of new products and services and increased competitiveness.

Please let us know your thougths on these challenges.

Re: Next Generation Order Orchestration: Dream or Future Reality?

    Hi Joan,

"Hybrid" orders is definitely a challenge from the BSS / OSS perspective but there are telcos which are realising this even though the ability to capture "Hybrid" orders is in an initial stage.

BT for example has a series of Order Orchestration applications, one application for a set of products(an app called Neo for 21C products ,another app called OFS for TSR products (PSTN, ISDN)etc) and these Order Orchestration applications take in orders from multiple "front end"  / CRM applications(orders might be from BT Wholesale, BT Retail, other CSPs or even ICT players like BT GS) and  break up the Order line items, do a  lot of the Order fulfillment activities, integrate to Billing for Billing Account and Bill Plan creation before relaying the relevant line items to the Network elements for activation. (Even though "true hybrid" orders has still not been implemented)

These Order Orchestration applications also doa similar job in the Assurance processes as well.(carry out the initial dignostic tests etc)

The Order Orchestration apps range from Clarify to Metasolv etc

EAI is another challenge keeping the four components i.e. CRM, Order Orchestration, Billing and Ntwrk elements in mind. Most of the integration should ideally be realised using the SOA  model.

It definitely is not a dream but a future reality and this would be very soon in the coming few "months" :-)

    Regards,

    Jagadish BS

    HI

Yes  Telco-Web 2.0, IMS, SDP, fixed-mobile convergence: these technology trends promise to help deliver new lifestyle services and enhances customer loyality  and I agree Order Management and Subscriber Provisioning are key for introduction of new products , another aspect which Telecom provideres are  pinning their hopes on bundled services as key future revenues streams, quick service provisioning, streamlined billing services and excellent customer service are what's going to differentiate the winners -- not simply offering the services themselves. To compete effectively, the OSS/BSS now must be able to handle multiple transaction types and multiple payment methods as well as enforce credit controls and policies in real time to maximize profit and minimize revenue leaks.

This webinar will examine the ramifications of the next generation hybrid BSS/OSS on order orchestration and possible ways to address them, and will also outline lessons learned from CGI’s experiences in this area.
