Exact reason for a dropped call

    Hi

In my application when a call drops (data or voice), I require the exact reason as why the call dropped(e.g battery level low, n/w level low, call rejected, not answered) or atleast whether the termination was a normal termination or an abnormal termination.

    Scenario:
    1) When either party disconencts the call, the disconnect is considered to
    be a NORMAL disconnect.
    2) Whereas, when the call gets dropped because of signal strength or battery
level or network congestion, the call disconnect is considered as ABNORMAL.

From where can I get the information, from device or the service provider. And if from the service provider, are there any third party service provider dll (TSP dll)available which I can use on my device

Re: Exact reason for a dropped call

    Hi,

The exact reason for the call termination is recorded by the terminating switch and carried back to the orginating switch in the signalling (in the realese code).  The reason for termination is usually recorded in the call detail record and may also be logged in the switch stats.  The SP has access to the information and some use it for real time monitoring of traffic.

Whether the termiation code is recorded by the user device depends on the inteeligence of the user device.  For example some mobil edevice do record someof this information, however it is not easy to get at it.

    Regards,

    Ian

Just to add my piece of info. It is pointless getting the right data from your application. It would be more appropriate to look at your MSC datasheet on call management protocols and error codes.. that might do it
