This webinar will feature a case study involving the use of a breakthrough database architecture that was designed for telecommunications companies trying to capture and analyze large volumes of SNMP data.
Brian Harvell, Comcast’s senior director of network operations, will describe his team’s use of this architecture to capture terabytes of network performance data for their broadband, cable television, telephone and Internet services so that it can be quickly analyzed to:
- Troubleshoot network problems before they affect customers
- Conduct capacity planning and network build-out
- Ensure network devices are meeting service level agreements (SLAs)
In addition, attendees will learn about Comcast’s decision to use the Vertica Analytical Database, which underlies the system. The Vertica Analytic Database innovations include:
- Shared-nothing column architecture
- Aggressive data compression
- Concurrent loading and querying of data
- Auto-administration – design, tuning, failover, recovery
These innovations allow Comcast and others to give more people access to more data and answer questions 50 to 200 times faster than other databases, use 90 percent less storage hardware and incur very minimal IT overhead.
