Being ready for the Cloud?

Share |

Hi all,

allmost everyone in our industry ist talking about "the cloud".

What does this mean for the value creation chain and delivery models to bring new products and services to the market?

First of all cloud means a paradigm shift from a linear chain towards value creation networks - from static demand-supply structures to complex and dynamic service federation. Custumers are able to assemble tailormade products from various services from different service providers. Service providers do not necessarily have control in which products their services are used in - Google maps is a perfect example for that.

Obviously this has a strong impact on delivery models and how projects have to be executed. So partners and suppliers need to be integrated into both - the delivery and operational models for new product.
The overall architecture (i.e. information, processes and application achitecture) need to be adopted to this new paradigm.

What is your experience in executing projects to deliver new product for the cloud?

What is your opinion on that topic?

Are you ready for the cloud?

Best,
Dirk

Dirk,

Good topic and post. In fact yesterday I have observed that there is a planned discussion / workshop in TMW 2010 on this.

To my knowledg we are already delivering products over cloud. As per my study and reading I have observed the first generation in cloud is Software as Service. Providing CRM related services over cloud is already in place. Even before that I categorise email service is a service offered via cloud. The customer needs is an internet connection only.

Delivery of such products? How different is to the normal project? I do not see much difference.

There is a twist here. If we want to deliver such projects over cloud. So enabling the existing systems and processes (IT and non-IT) over cloud to introduce new products (cloud -SAAD and non-cloud). I think this leads to PLM tools and SDP tools into SAAS model. May be PLM on demand!

Anyway let us see how others' opinions are!

TM Forum is moving strongly into the cloud space.  Look for some major announcements in the coming weeks (you have already seen a Cloud Stream at Management World America's promoted).

I'm heading up our Cloud Initiative so anyone interested in being a part of the new frontier should join the Cloud Community as I will be posting a lot of new information there in the next few days.
