Transformations demand an integrated framework and process
Piggybacking on Martin's Four Transformation Myths blog. Well, I do that too often. After all, why do we need to transform our business? The world is revolving faster and faster. Too fast perhaps. And it’s becoming ever more complex and organically so but not like the food, more like an organism; hard to tell how it really works.
There is another reason for transformation. The fear of becoming the infamous "pipe". There is neither prestige nor yield in that. Who wants to become an utility? It’s unavoidable though if not climbing that Value Chain ladder towards where the real customer value lies.
Still how do we transform our business? Can we perform two or more transformations at a time? Like for instance transformations to reduce costs, replace legacy, introduce 4G (or 3G for the late), introduce a new business model... Well, we have to ; but we still need to avoid duplication in efforts, platforms, processes, applications or information coming with each.
The TM Forum solution frameworks are a way out. They standardize business process, information and applications. They represent a reference for change and aid you re-engineer your processes and information.
We need to look at the whole though, at the big picture, to make sure these transformations are synchronized and alter a component only once and not one after another and each in its turn. In other words a single coordinated transformation process and a common enterprise view would help. This would be provided by the integrated solution frameworks incorporated in an overall enterprise wide development method and view. What does this mean in practice? Probably, more work to do to find out.
