Howdy, Sibel. There are two existing SID entities that support your requirements. I have included figures that show them below.

This figure below shows the association between values...the "type" attribute value for this type of association would be "dependency". This association class could be used if the dependency association is universal for all entities that use this characteristic spec.

This figure below does not show the attributes, but they are defined for the entity. This could be used if the dependency association is specific to one entities use of the characteristic spec and its values.

Howdy, Sibel...you may be looking at a release of the SID earlier than 9.5. In SID 9.5 we added an association between ProductOffering and ProdSpecCharValueUse. ProdSpecCharValueUse is related to ComponentProdOfferPrice. This will enable you to associate a particular value of the characteristic for a spect to an offering and offer it at a price specific to the value.

Product Spec Characteristic Values of Product Offerings

Hello,

We are trying to determine how we should access the product spec char values of a product offering. What is unknown to us is, for an individual product offering, how do we know which values are being offered. I will try to give an example:

Company A is offering high-speed internet with varying speeds. Each speed has an associated price; therefore should be a different offer. Where should we keep the value of the connection speed for a one specific offer? There are no visible connections between Product Offering and Product Spec Char Values in SID model.

Hello,

For our product structure, we need to establish relations between product spec characteristic values.

Here is an example:

"Local Access Type" (LAT) is a product spec char. There are two values it can take: copper and fiber. Another product spec char is "Connection Speed". If LAT is selected as fiber, the values of the connection speed are 1GB/sec, 3GB/sec and 5GB/sec (just making them up). If it's copper, the speeds will vary between 10MB/sec and 1 GB/sec.

To achieve this, we are planning on creating a table where we will store the relationships between the values of different spec characteristics. Although, we are not sure if this would be SID compliant. Any advice is appreciated.

How to use SID model to design Telecom network

Howdy, Sasikumar. There is a Network ABE in the Logical Resource ABE that you can use as a starting point (although it should probably be in the Compound Resource ABE!). Network Elements are referred to as Resource Elements in the SID and can be found in the Compound Resource ABE. There are also connectivity entities in the SID that can be used to connect the elements. You can also define "types" of Networks and Elements using the Compound Resource Specification ABE.

More details about this can be found in the Logical Resource guide book (addendum) that you have already reviewed in a couple of sections that deal with Networks.

Value Network Role ABE

Hi All,

I've long had a problem with the Value Network Role ABE and the ValueNetworkRole class. Their names imply that they are something to do with Value Network Analysis. According to Wikipedia this is "A value network is a business analysis perspective that describes social and technical resources within and between businesses. The nodes in a value network represent people (or roles)." So according to the Wikipedia definition, and my understanding of Value Networks the types of "people", or parties one would expect to find in a Value Network would include Customers, Suppliers, Partners, Employees - roles played by parties who help the organisation in the execution of its business.

In the Value Network Role ABE (in SID v9.5) which is in the Resource ABE there are the following classes: Administrator, Customer(!), ResourceInstaller, Technician and TelecomTechnician. With the exception of Customer (which is not the same class as Customer in the Customer ABE) these roles all appear to be roles played by people or organisation associated with the maintenance of Resources. These are low-level internal or network facing roles and this is confirmed by the definitions of most of these classes. For example Administrator is defined as "An Administrator is a PartyRole who manages and maintains Resources and Services". These classes are all sub-types of the ValueNetworkRole class (is a sub-class of PartyRole)

Along with these classes in the ABE is ResourceRole - defined as "This is an abstract base class that defines the concept of various types of roles associated with Resources (both physical and logical) in the DEN-ng model."

Again this definition could be taken to indicate that the ResourceRole is a role played by a Party in relation to a Resource...

So the classes in the Value Network ABE aren't exactly the roles one would associate with Value Networks, but I can agree there are some useful Party Roles identified here.

So the ResourceRole class should also be a PartyRole, but... no it isn't! ResourceRole is associate with ResourceRoleProductInvolvement which is defined as "A ResourceRole involved with a Product. The involvement may be a inventoried, such as a SIM card, that was provided as the tangible incarnation of a Product." To confirm this ResourceRole is a sub-class of EntityRole, not PartyRole.

Something is obviously not right here! This ABE was a bit screwed up before DEN-ng model was integrated into SID, but now it is plainly wrong.

This could be sorted out in Release 10 by:

1. Moving the ResourceRole class into the Resource ABE

2. Rename the Value Network Role ABE to Network Role ABE or even Network Party Role ABE

3. Move the newly named Network Role ABE to Roles ABE (which could be renamed to Party Role ABE)

4. Rename the ValueNetworkRole class to NetworkRole (or NetworkPartyROle) and move it to the Value Network ABE

5. If Value Network is a useful concept in the SID then create an ABE for it in Enterprise Domain, create a ValueNetworkRole that (a subtype of PartyRole) that has associations with Customer, Supplier, Partner Employee etc.

Currently the intention is to have the complete set of required and optional attributes as part of the model files in release 12+ of the SID later this year (SID team experts will update these), as it was recommended not to have a separate, independent handcrafted spreadsheet reproducing all of the information (which inadvertently may not include all such information) relative to SID entities and ABEs, such as example entities and ABEs, core entities, required/optional attributes, etc to avoid having more than a single source of truth…

Core entities in the SID should be pretty obvious as they have in most cases the same name as the ABE’s name (but using camelcase notation with no spaces). The data dictionaries (in the SID addenda files) should be referred to for required/optional…if they are missing then it is assumed they (attributes) are optional (of course there are always some hopefully rare exceptions).

PerformanceCharacteristicValue & PerformanceIndicator & PerformanceCounter in SID

Howdy. Rather than have me copy parts of the addendum here, I ask you to take a look at figure PF.12 and the text preceding it that describes the use of characteristics from a Performance perspective.

Today, you can use characteristics for counters. Figure PF.13 and the text above provides a starting model for using characteristics as a performance indicator derivation parameter. There are derivationFormula and derivationMethod attributes in PerformanceIndicatorSpecification that would use these parameters. This part of the model is incompete and does need further development. Perhaps there is also the need to create a PerformanceCounter entity.

However, it appears that PerformanceCounters themselves may also represent instances of PerformanceIndicatorSpecifications. If this is the case Figure PF.13 also shows how a PerformanceIndicatorSpecification can be used in the derivation of another PerformanceIndicatorSpecification.

Hi,

I have just started going through the SID documents. I develop/design software for Telecom surveillance system(MOM). We used to define the seperate Network (Layer-1 to Layer-3)model for each service we provide. As we are providing so many services, and convergence takes place in these services, we are finding it difficult to maintain and enhance the model.

I am planning to redesign the Network Model using SID, Hoping that maintenance would be easy and easy to accomodate any fututre changes in the network.

I have just started going through Physical Resource and Logical Resource documents.

Have few basic questions

I am not clear, how to use SID to define Network model for Telecom.

Should i have to define all the Objects defined in SID?

Should i use to SID as reference to come up my own model for my network?

Please help me to get started in the right direction.

In the addendum "GB922_Addendum_1_Performance_R9-5_v1-6.doc" I find the concept PerformanceCharacteristicValue and PerformanceIndicator are very confusing, the first defines Performance, the latter describes Performance. What the different between them? Could anybody please give me a clear example that distinguish these two.

And what about Performance Counter, there is nothing that mention it in the whole SID. How should we model it and how should we model the formula that is used to calculate KPI (or PI) from counters. Please give me some advice. Thank you.

Projects linked to Customer Order

Hi Warren,
I had a similar problem in the past and I understand, that you want to associate the CustomerOrder (which is indeed a BusinessInteraction) with a Project (which is no BusinessInteraction).
So what's missing is the link between Project and BusinessInteraction. In that former project, we introduced a ProjectInvolvementRole (derived from BusinessInteractionInvolvementRole) that is associated with Project.

As this role is on BusinessInteraction level, with that role also other kinds of BusinessInteractions can be linked with project, such as CustomerProblem - which sometimes makes perfectly sense.
Maybe, the time has come to make this enhancement a CR to the SID.

Howdy, Johannes and all. Johannes, I am confused about your third point, where you say "map on to the Service horizontal". Bundling, pricing and selling are Market & Offer Management and CRM processes, not Service processes. Perhaps you can explain a bit more.
