This is a reminder to the TIP "MTOSI GPON Enhancements" project-team (GPON Team) to please cast a ballot concerning the proposed

TMF529 "MTOSI GPON Activation" FSD
(http://collab.tmforum.org/integration/viewcvs/viewcvs.cgi/Teams/Resource%20Management/GPON/Work_in_Progress/?root=tip&system=exsy1002)

The ballotting will conclude at 23:59 UTC on Wednesday, February 15, 2012.

Please note that each company represented on the GPON Team has ONE (1) vote.
If several team members that are employed by the same company (including affiliates) each cast a ballot, these will be tallied and their simple majority will determine the vote cast by that company.

You may vote by either posting a comment to this discussion item or by sending E-mail to Tina O'Sullivan (mailto:tosullivan@tmforum.org).

Please word your ballot such that your text will reflect exactly one of the following:

TMF529 “MTOSI GPON Activation” FSD, V1.28, represents the duly specified scope for an initial enhancement of MTOSI with features geared towards the activation of data flows across a GPON transmission system.

Thanks Steve. Yes, as you know, the approved interface strategy is to drive forward the harmonised interfaces, with appropriate migration capability from both MTOSI and OSS/J in place.

That being said, we can’t necessarily prevent a group of members coming together to put new capability into MTOSI. Presumably there is a group of service providers who are strongly requesting this capability to be added. I’d be very interested to know who they are.

However, unless the charter also includes a plan to put the same functionality into the harmonised interfaces, I will be unable to approve the charter because it will not be aligned with our approved strategic direction. And so the issue will need to be escalated to the TSS.

I understand this has been explained to the members in question. Hopefully they will work to produce a charter that will align with the strategy. Having explained the situation to them, there is nothing further the staff team can do until the charter is produced & then we will handle it appropriately.

Like Illka I remeber that an extra meeting was suggested but no date was fixed.
But it is important that we gain a commen understanding concerning this subject.

llka you if the legacy interfaces (e.g. mTOP based and OSS/J) will be maintained correspondingly.
I understood by enhancing old interface already existing as new once in TIP you have to add the new funtionality also to the new TIP interface but no the other way round.
So I hope no one who enhances new TIP interface is forced or has to care that this funcionality is also added to legacy interface.
This would be double work.

Hi Tina

If I understood correctly Technical Strategy Subcommittee had made a decision that the migration to TIP interfaces need to be done so that also the legacy interfaces i.e. MTOSI and OSS/J will be maintained correspondingly. This means double work. I understood that we need to discuss further about this, and the MMUG meeting today on Fri 10.2 may not be the best opportunity to discuss. But evidently we didn't agree any date and time to discuss about this problem.

Hi Team,.

In continuation of the discussion at TAW on this topic, i have attached a tentative approach on bringing in the technology specific aspects into the Probable Causes.

As we seemed to conclude during the meeting, if we attempt to solve all the problems [Enviornment Alarm meaning a completely different thing conceptually in Wireless and Wireline world for example] in one go, we run the risk of a)stalling and never getting this important started b)Will be missing getting very standardizable aspects standardized thereby missing the 80-20 rule.

Attached (In Sheet 8) is a sample of the 802.1ag CCM PCs mapped to Probable Causes.. The more i think of it, i the more it appears that OSS can more easily (and this one is especially for Service Providers....)be able to in an interoperable fashion mix and match OSS components not having to get locked in to particular ones), provide efficient means to process and provide a shallow learning curive wrapper by for RCA/SIA, if there is on top of the PCs themselves there is a standardization of the Structural relationship amongst the conceptual reference those PCs make. But this would likely be a next step.

Could we carry this forward with other standardized OAMs, sourcing the information from the OAM work currently being undertaken at the TSO subteam?

I am sorry Illka,

I am not aware of an extra TIP Admin meeting organised for Monday. The only extra meetings I recall was one I set-up with Jessie to work on her charter and we agreed that Steve & I needed to meet to continue editing the Terms of Reference. I don’t believe we actually set a time for that.

I think now the ONT profile is designed to cover the port parameters. I agree with you that it's more suitable that ONT profile don't cover the port parameters.

Yes, the profile is assigned to ONT, and the attributes will be a list of pair( UNI port , UNI Port parameters).

the EMS will do the detail configuration on each port and parameter, that can reduce the management cost of OSS.

Regarding your question about CharacteristicsFilter and QueryFilter, the note on page 23 of the https://collab.tmforum.org/svn/repos/tip/Teams/Inventory/BA/TIP-QueryUpdatePattern-Proposal.pptx document (which I reproduce below) gives indication about the difference between the two:

-Need to further define “CharacteristicFilter”and “QueryFilter”
(one will be Name/Value pairs using the semantic of CMDB-F
the other will either an XPATH expression or …)

The message here is that the ONT profile is not intended to cover profiles that are applied to ports (at least that is my understanding).

It is intended to cover general attributes of the ONT itself, and not the ports.
