actuallly you posted your question in the right group :-)

to interact across bounderies between different affiliates (or departments inside one affiliate) you need to interconnect the specific business process implementations from the affiliates.

For this in general you need to
    1) abstract the internal private processes as (or "provide hooks" to) public processes
    2) agree on the steps contained in the public processes between the affiliates

IPsphere proposes one possible solution to the particular problem of enabling cross-boundary service delivery by:
    1) specifying public processes for publication, activation and assurance - which connect back to the internal private processes through MTOSI (extending the eTOM)
    2) specifying service specific information to be exchanged to enable the configuration of the cross-domain service (as IPsphere Service Specifications)
    3) specifying the process steps required to exchange the specific information of point 3 (e.g. this process is a BPMN derived script that is published as part of the IPsphere Service Specification)
    4) publishing the services available from an affiliate in an IPsphere public catalog for the other affiliates to find and use the specifications to build their own (composite) services (using the Catalog).

Please note that IPsphere today looks mostly at the service level and the problem of enabling the standardization of crossboundary information and processes for specific services,
and assumes that business aspects are fixed by the cooperating partners that use IPsphere together as the information exchange mechanism.
The (today DRAFT) IPsphere CookBook is the guideline for creating an IPsphere Service Specification that standardizes how to set up a particular cross boundary service.

You can find more information described in the TR158 IPsphere Framework document: http://collab.tmforum.org/sf/go/doc12045?nav=1
Please be aware that IPsphere is not defining a standalone framework, but a reference architecture the elements of which leverage and contribute to TMForum Frameworx.

We are today looking for contributors in testing and refining the CookBook and start producing IPSphere Service Specifications :-)

hope it helps,

Please find on the IPsphere project workspace the proposed update for the IPsphere Program Charter (Jan-Jul 2012) for your review.

Here is the link: http://collab.tmforum.org/sf/go/doc19844?nav=1

B2B is an important topic (even if many people had not much time to contribute in the past year),
and the creation of B2B specifications remains an issue to be strcutured in industry.

IPsphere is one of the few places where the topic of B2B interaction standardization is being addressed today.

Due to cloud-focus in industry where cooperations across domains is key, the time is more and more ripe to require increased participation from TMForum members in defining and applying a methodology to support standardization of B2B interactions.

The tool is the IPsphere Cookbook providing the IPsphere Service Specification methodology. It builds on TMForum Frameworx for the definition of data, processes and interfaces specifications.

Slow but steady progress has been made in 2011, and we are getting to a point where the methodology for doing actual IPsphere Service Specs (the Cookbook) needs to be finalized and validated by application to further B2B use cases.

The charter for the next 6 month targets to

Discuss with the SID team on the information model entities related to the IPsphere Service Specification.

Discuss with the TIP team to ensure alignment and support of the work on the interfaces required to enable IPsphere Service Specification deployment.

Elaborate the approved release of the cookbook based on the feedback from the B2B video use case currently being implemented and used to validate the approach.

Apply the cookbook to further IPsphere Service Specifications use cases and possibly implementations.

If you are interested to help drive B2B specifications becoming a reality, please review the charter, provide comments and confirm your interest through this discussion list.

This is a cross team post as we have identified that we will need to work with these teams, but anyone is welcome to join and support :-)

We also need interested service providers to become sponsors, so please let use know !!

Target is to submit the charter for TMForum approval on Jan 31st, 2012.

kind regards,
Hi John,
Vary valid observation. We discussed this on the last team call and agreed on the following position:

The short answer is yes, that is correct.

The longer answer is that IPsphere focuses mainly on the ServiceSpec, hence the name of the document.

The product-specific ProductSpec aspects would generically be part of the document, but can usually only partly be standardized.

We have built into the template of the doc the room to include those product specific aspects that would be standardized.

From an industry forum and Spec usage point of view, one might expect it to be more practical that all info about one ProductOffering is in one document.

Do you think that that is the case and that using IPsphereProductOfffering will be easier to understand ?

If you and others of the Generic B2B team agreed on this, we are happy to rename the document in Cookbook and templates, to user the name IPsphereProductOffering in the top level info.

We will need inputs for writing the corresponding Coolkbook and template document parts :-)

Kind regards,
Tanja

I have posted on the IPsphere document space an initial draft of the IPsphere Service Specification template document.

This document is to become a tool for people who want to standardize a B2B service, in particular, but not limited to, for what we have defined as IPsphere Services, meaning services
that require coherent handling of cross-domain dependencies between the
composing elements of the B2B service.

this template should be enriched following the excersize of buiding the 3 use cases selected in the IPsphere charter:

B2B Ethernet service (building on TIP SM work - needs help from TIP SM team :-))

B2B Video Delivery service

B2B VPN service

Please let us know if you are interested to contribute to the elaboration and documentation (!) of any of these use cases.

You can also submit requests for other B2B use cases, which will go into the IPsphere Service Roadmap (draft to be published soon).
