Many thanks for your participation of the TelcoML discussion today, sorry about the conference bridge problem at the beginning of the meeting that resulted in some folks won’t be able to join.

The presentation deck is attached to this post.

Action item: draft a TM Forum/OMG work register to further discuss the following items: (please comment if I stated them inaccurately)

1. Incorporation of SES SMI into TelcoML, with the consideration of:

o Timeline required to incorporate FRs/CRs as the result of the SES/MTOSI tiger team recommendation

o Not to miss the opportunity in providing management hooks into TelcoML before wider industry adoption (next TelcoML revision by June 2012)

2. Understand the interface syntax and design patterns between Frameworx and SoaML/TelcoML, e.g.

o Interaction patterns and stereotypes of soaML/TelcoML vs. Frameworx

o Differences and applicability of TelcoML composition profile to Frameworx interfaces/business services

3. JOSIF tool integration

o Allow imports of SoaML

o Alignment/leveraging of soaML methodology for the full interface lifecycle development, such as integration with BPMN/BPEL etc.

The study scope is obvious quite large and require domain experts who can commit/contribute to the work, I expect the outcome of those work register items will be recommendations in the form of reports, CRs or FRs. Targeted for Frameworx release 12.5 or later.

I will have a draft work register for discussion in the next couple of weeks -- we need to discuss the timelines and priorities of those work items.

Will appreciate if you can also let me know which of those suggested work areas that you will be interested to engage to make sure they stay in the final work scope.

Follows some background based on input by Jenny Huang.

Last year OMG has adopted a first version of TelcoML as a way to express SOA based Telco services. It is an extensionof OMG SoaML has as a goal to bring Telco services APIs (e.g. defined by OneAPI and others) to the same level of abstraction. This should enable the development of tools to assist the Service Designer and the required governance which is actually a similar goal as for the SES Management Solution.

SMI has been considered for the management aspects, however since TM Forum had not yet published the SMI specification, Jenny suggested to the OMG TelcoML team to wait with introducing the SMI definition till the second phase.

Now seems like a good time to engage with the team in order to understand what OMG has defined and whether it makes sense for TM Forum to insert additional interfaces into the TelcoML library to ensure management aspects of those services are in line with the TM Forum work in that area. That would be great to enlarge the adoption of SES.

Tomorrows call is intended as a first step in this process.

I am traveling on Wed/Thursday and with the expected delays due to strike disruption at London Airports it is highly likely that I will be in the air at the time of our scheduled call

Rather than waste people’s time on what is IMHO at least 90% certain outcome I proposed to cancel the call

I will attempt to progress the FR/CR work with individuals by email.

If we need to set up a call before the following scheduled call 15^th December I will try to setup an ad hoc one off call.

Weekly SES Management Solution weekly conference calss

For a number of reasons I would like to suspend the weekly conference call:

we did conclude the Phase 5, submitted deliverables for review ;
regular participant numbers have been low recently and regular participants are quite busy right now preparing a catalyst ;
there is still the Tiger team discussion ongoing that may impact our next steps.

While suspending the weekly SES Management Solution call, we still have the Tiger team conference calls every other week.

We plan to reconvene with regular calls after Management World Americas and once the recommendation of the Tiger Team has been forumlated and approved for implementation.

Why standardize on an evolved wireless communication framework?

What is really needed is a common framework for embedded systems for commercial and military platforms. The SCA [1] profile provides a common framework, that is primarily used in the military, for a standard wireless communication framework. The SCA is a framework for embedded systems but is too heavyweight for commercial tablets, handsets, access points, etc. With the advent of commercial proprietary subscriber devices incorporating datalink and router software, with applications e.g. MANETs/VANETs, hotspots, etc., a standard wireless communication framework is needed to refactor the commonality in commercial and military frameworks with a small footprint that will run on major commercial Operating Systems e.g. Android, IoS, Symbian, etc.

What kinds of knowledge need to be captured?

We want to learn about how you are working now, what your processes are, where your problems are and where standardization may provide improvements for your work. We like to learn how you apply existing standards now, and how future standardization (which you could influence) would help your work.

Call for SES_MS Project Co-Lead

Greetings,

The TM Forum Software Enabled Services Management Solutions would like to make an open call for the Team Co-Lead position. The Software Enabled Services (SES) Management Solution activity was established to provide a means to allow consistent end-to-end management and metering of services exposed by and across different service providers’ domains and technologies, such as communication, cloud or Web 2.0. The SES Management Solution proposes an approach to enable and support consistent access to the software enabled services for OA&M tasks. The SES Management Interface (SMI) complements the functional capabilities exposed by the software component’s API with additional lifecycle management operations. And the SES design pattern, described in the SES Reference Architecture, enables reusability of services in different environments, including cloud, by manipulating the Lifecycle Management Metadata.

The intent is to run the team by two Co-Leads supported by a TM Forum Staff member.

The appointment of the SES_Management Solution Team Leader will follow the Team Leader appointment process details of which are available on the TM Forum web site at: http://www.tmforum.org/ProcessDocuments/CollaborationProgram/35424/article.html which outlines the general responsibilities of the position.

The process requires that all interested parties complete an application form, which is attached in this message.

The completed application form should be sent to me at jrottinger@tmforum.org no later than Friday October 7, 2011. All applications will then be forwarded to the SVP of Collaborations for consideration.
