This paper sets out the case for Inter-OSS Application Programming Interface (API) standards which can be seen as an important element in a third way for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) looking to integrate and refine their OSS/BSS. Currently CSPs believe they are faced with two courses of action. They can either continue with their traditional custom software development, or they can adopt off-the-shelf integration components. This paper argues that API standards offer a viable alternative.
