According to market research Next Generation Network services such as SoIP will represent a multi-Billion dollar global market opportunity by year 2005. This is driven by the demand of cost saving from the end customers, as well as the capability of enhanced and flexible real-time applications over a unified packet network infrastructure. SoIP will be a major revenue generating service for many Tier 1 service providers in the next few years.

The TM Forum Service Providers Leadership Council (SPLC) has initiated the SoIP team to

  1. Define and to prioritize the type of Services need to be worked,
  2. Develop reference scenarios including the identification of access equipment such as SIP devices, subscriber/access media gateways, transit media gateways and media gateway controllers
  3. Resource management interfaces and SLA requirements definition
  4. Use case development for provisioning flow-thru in a multi-vendor environment.

Service Providers are encouraged to actively participate in the SoIP. If you would like additional information, please contact Jenny Huang, AT&T, jsh@att.com or Debbie Burkett, dfburkett@tmforum.org
