Business Metrics Development Project (BusMet) Overview

The industry requires quantitative as well as qualitative information to support its evolution in the increasingly complex market that is developing through technology advancements, regulatory changes, and competitive influences. The TM Forum has established the Business Metrics Development project to support the metrics development for the Business Transformation Benchmarking Program

The BusMet project team was challenged to develop a framework for delivering a comprehensive view of relevant business performance metrics and benchmarks. The guiding principles of the BusMet for establishing this framework are:

  • Assure relevancy and high business impact
  • Identify and measure what is ‘important to measure’ as opposed to measuring what is ‘easy to measure’.  This will ensure that the work is continually relevant to the target audience - the Service Providers.
  • Clearly define and describe the metrics to a sufficient level of detail to ensure “apples to apples” and not “apples to oranges” comparisons between participants.
  • Align with other benchmarks to prevent unnecessary duplicated effort for data collection.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of all information submitted by the service providers participating in this activity.

A more complete description of the BusMet work is contained in the document “BusMet Executive Summary.”
