GB989 Impact of SDN/NFV on Charging and Billing R15.5.1

This document provides a high level study of the impact of SDN / NFV on Charging & Billing systems. It provides a review of the current state of C&B and then highlights the potential opportunities and challenges arising from SDN/NFV adoption. The document takes SDN/NFV use cases and provides a view of the architectural and standardization support required to enable seamless C&B.

This document uses the MANO architecture as a base to present the impact analysis on C&B as a result of the new services (and revenue streams) expected to be offered through SDN/NFV.

Further to this, the document extends the notion of Charging Data Records (CDRs) to present usage records for C&B for Infrastructure services provided using NFV (NVFIaaS), Virtual Network Functions (VNFaaS) etc. The scope is limited to presenting the standardization needs for such CDRs to make C&B seamless and does not provide the CDR formats and content.
