5G

Released: Monday, July 22, 2019

The fifth-generation wireless technology, commonly known as 5G, is the most ‘[;awaited network transformation event in the telecom industry. The countdown for the launch is being keenly followed by the telecom industry because of 5G’s potential to influence niche technologies such as IoT, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), high quality media transmission, and gaming. Riding on the technology’s potential, the number of 5G connections is forecast to reach more than 2.5 billion by 2025.  The 5G market is predicted to be above $200 billion by 2025, and the total 5G market is expected to register a CAGR of above 111% over the next five to seven years [1].

While the discussion across forums revolves around 5G use cases, it is worthwhile exploring its potential being amplified by underlying technologies.
