An especially powerful aspect of the TM Forum is their ‘Catalyst Projects’, a portfolio of prototype focused projects that set out to identify and solve a common industry need within the context of a members forum of the industry’s brightest minds.
They literally do act as a catalyst, forming new teams that build upon existing forum assets to continually advance the shared ideas and capabilities available to the whole industry.
A rocket fuel accelerant to then add to the mix is where they further intersect with and fuse open standards and open source software development. This defines the repeatable recipe and stocks the larder with the ready to go ingredients.
For example with the goals of building an NFVaaS Ecosystem the project ‘NFV Service Orchestration and Lifecycle Management based on Open Source MANO‘ is a very concentrated area, as MANO acts as the central industry reference model, with Openstack implementations then establishing the ‘closed loop’ cycle of real-world implementation feedback, producing further FOSS distributions.
