TM Forum was delighted to meet hundreds of our members and the broader industry during this year’s Mobile World Congress. Seeing how much engagement and collaboration we have driven together across the board was exciting, particularly on Open Digital Architecture (ODA), Open APIs and our newly launched Moonshot Catalyst Program.
On the eve of MWC, we convened industry leaders at what will now become our annual TM Forum Executive Reception at the Hotel Arts. We came together to reconnect and explore how to reignite growth for our industry. It was a pleasure to share early insights from our upcoming CEO Playbook on this topic and gain widespread support and input from our C-level audience.
Throughout the week on the show floor, we partnered with Microsoft on their stand to showcase the latest developments in ODA. Microsoft has created a cloud-based telecoms ecosystem using TM Forum’s ODA reference canvas on Microsoft Azure.
Microsoft has worked with TM Forum for several years on our ODA project, helping drive the Telecoms industry forward. At Mobile World Congress, they extended their commitment by signing the ODA Manifesto.
Microsoft has applied TM Forum’s ODA reference canvas to their Azure cloud, but they did not stop there. They took some of our reference capabilities and replaced them with Azure functionality (such as their Active Directory), for security, monitoring functionality and API management, as well as integration with Azure-focused 3rd party tools such Grafana and Prometheus. This provides the ‘pluggable’ environment (canvas) for them to initiate scripts that can be quickly integrated with any ODA-compliant software function (component).
The Microsoft ODA reference canvas shows that any Communication Service Provider (CSP) can now have an efficient, fast, and agile way to drive growth within their business.
ODA continues to gain increased support from CSPs. Our CEO Nik Willetts caught up with Jonathan Abrahamson, Chief Product & Digital Officer, and Shekhar Kulkarni, Chief IT Architect at Deutsche Telekom, to talk about how ODA has become a foundation and enabler of their strategy to become a leading digital telco.
