The whole telecoms industry is hyped for a 5G future, with very high expectations of the potential benefits to be reaped from this new technology. However, communication service providers (CSPs) around the globe are suffering revenue pressures to find the right business model to offset the huge gaps between capital investments and gained profits.
This project believes that boosting 5G business should be supported by the “collaboration economy” around 5G ecology, and should be beneficial to everyone in the value fabric. The success of the 5G economy is not in the technology itself, but in using the right business model to collaborate with multiple parties.
China Unicom and China Telecom have just announced their 5G network infrastructure co-building and sharing strategy, which is a significant exploration of 5G network roll-out. Therefore, this Catalyst project will offer a tangible solution to creating transparent resource information sharing, efficient application and approval processes and effective elimination of data discrepancy in a 5G co-building and sharing scenario.
Furthermore, in the 5G era, the network connects everything. The serving object of network expands from people to things, which will generate huge volumes of data. Data monetization will become the keystone of 5G. This project will also showcase how CSPs can monetize their massive data asset based on blockchain technology.

Phase I: Blockchain-based data sharing
This project aims to build a data sharing and data access control system for CSPs using Blockchain technology. The main objectives are to address the challenges of desensitized data circulation, privacy in data sharing, as well as internal data access control within the CSP organization.
