Seamless connectivity for a resilient supply chain: Bridging gaps with integrated cellular and satellite networks
Project companies
UNITe focuses on solving a critical industry challenge: the integration of terrestrial cellular networks with satellite communications into a unified, scalable solution. This capability is essential for delivering seamless, global connectivity—especially in remote, underserved, or infrastructure-poor environments where cellular coverage alone is not sufficient.
The Catalyst validates this integration through a proof of concept. It demonstrates interoperability between satellite and cellular systems using 5G standards and TM Forum frameworks. To prove its value, this phase of the UNITe project applies this integrated model to a practical application: global supply chain tracking. Many high-value shipments—such as perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, and defence supplies—require reliable, real-time monitoring. In regions where cellular infrastructure is lacking, satellite connectivity ensures uninterrupted data transmission. This enhances visibility, reduces spoilage and theft, and supports regulatory compliance.
The solution uses AI-driven analytics to predict disruptions and optimize logistics in real time. Technically, UNITe aligns with emerging 3GPP standards and TM Forum’s best practices. It enables continuous data exchange, intelligent routing, and service orchestration across network types. This architecture is scalable, resilient, and adaptable across industries. By ensuring transparency and control over shipment conditions, the solution also improves trust and customer satisfaction.
UNITe shows how users and systems can stay continuously connected—anywhere, on any network. It will demonstrate how integrated satellite–cellular connectivity helps businesses cut costs, reduce losses, and reach new markets. Success will be measured by gains in efficiency, coverage, compliance, and customer outcomes. This Catalyst gives providers a practical blueprint for universal connectivity—on land, at sea, in the air, and beyond.
