SHINE: Simple hyperscaler integrated network experience

URN C23.0.516
Topics Intent-based networking, Network as a Service (NaaS), Open APIs

Simplifying telco and hyperscaler integration to monetize network capabilities, enabling revenue generation and a seamless user experience

The existing processes for customers to acquire and manage network services from Communications Service Providers (CSPs) are complex, provider-specific, and non-standardized. It is time for CSPs to make their network capabilities on demand via multiple channels while using an industry standardized framework. Today, software-centric customers (as in Entertainment, IoT, Edge and other domains) have high dependency on network services as their solutions mostly rely on the cloud. They end up looking for a digital-first experience for network services where cloud-based, self-servicing, on-demand and real-time management features are decision factors. This Catalyst takes a step to define and implement a technical framework in consultation with multiple Industry partners to innovate and provide CSPs additional channels to sell and expose their network assets via Hyperscalers. Leveraging TMForum Open Digital Architecture and aligning to the industry Initiatives, like GSMA Open Gateway and Project CAMARA, the project builds up an unified and operator-agnostic framework to standardize the customer journey on four different stages: 1. Publishing: Enabling CSP's to expose and publish available Network Services to Hyperscaler Catalogs. Leverages some key solution components as Microsoft Marketplace, SaaS Accelerator and CSP Ordering Systems. 2. Purchasing: Enabling Customers to purchase Network Services in Hyperscaler One-stop Shop. Leverages some key solution components as Microsoft Marketplace, SaaS Accelerator and CSP Ordering Systems. 3. Configuration: Enabling Customers to configure Network Services in Hyperscaler Standardized API Gateway. Leverages some key solution components as Microsoft APC and CSP NaaS Orchestrators. 4. Using: Enabling Customers to use Network Services through a Hyperscaler Standardized API Gateway. Leverages some key solution components as Microsoft APC and CSP NaaS Orchestrators. Through the SHINE Catalyst, CSPs will be able to expose their Network services to a broader developers’ ecosystem, and to empower customers to solve their complex business and Industry challenges. The catalyst will also accelerate operators’ monetization of huge made investments in Networks (5G, Fiber, etc) by shortening time to market and creating additional revenue channels through Hyperscalers.
