SATCOM + 5G anywhere - Phase II

Topics Marketplaces, Open APIs, Service orchestration

Elevating comms for global resilience & commercial success

featured image
This Catalyst addresses a unique opportunity domain that is poised to become a hotbed of innovation and disruption in the next 3-5 years. The convergence between 5G and satellite communication networks is a hot topic and is heavily specified by 3GPP and ETSI. The industry and the market are putting major efforts into the development of such integration from both a network and device perspective. However, the OSS/BSS and network management perspective is currently missing, and we propose to cover it from the TM Forum's perspective through this collaboration. The proposed seminal use cases tackle real emerging business needs at a global level for Telcos and SATCOM providers as they both aim to capture market share for connectivity services, driven by higher resilience and reliability requirements. Conceptually, the solution builds on TM Forum’s Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) paradigm to integrate Telco and SATCOM CFSs into a single core commerce layer, followed by intent-driven automation of the order-to-activation process. We propose to rely on GSMA network service description templates to better capture the needs of business customers through the marketplace.
