Released: Monday, June 26, 2017

In the past, software companies assembled large teams of engineers to build applications which, over a period of time, became monolithic and unwieldy. Today they are using a microservices architecture to break the process down into components that can then be reassembled to deliver larger applications.

Using microservices is an approach to building, delivering and using software that many Internet companies have been employing for five to ten years or more. And in the same way that specialist manufacturing of automotive components has resulted in better vehicles, so is componentization helping to create better software.

Microservices are beginning to find their way into communications service providers’ businesses as they virtualize their networks and embrace cloud strategies. This report looks at how CSP can use microservices. Read it to understand:

  • What microservices are
  • How microservices can help CSPs
  • Why network virtualization isn’t enough
  • Why current OSS/BSS must change in the virtualized world
  • How operators expect to use microservices to improve OSS/BSS
