Business process framework (eTOM) conformance overview

This service performs a formal and certified conformance assessment of a selected set of TM Forum Business Process Framework (eTOM) Level 3 processes. It is designed to provide vendors with an independent assessment and validation of the level of conformance of their product/solution. Service providers and systems integrators can certify their design or implementation of a subset of the Business Process Framework (eTOM) Level 3 processes.

TM Forum’s Business Process Framework (eTOM) is a hierarchical classification of the main business processes required to run a service provider's business. At the conceptual level, the framework has three major areas, reflecting major areas of focus within a typical service-oriented organization:

  • Strategy-to-readiness
  • Operations
  • Enterprise Management

Business Process Framework (eTOM) Conformance Certification ensures that the processes in a specific implementation context or scenario are consistent with TM Forum’s globally recognized standards and best practices. Benefits of conformance include swifter integration with other products and solutions, providing proof points in RFx processes, making integration simpler and more reliable and thus saving costs and aligning with industry proven models and standards.

How does it work?

  • The service will assess how well your product, solution or implementation conforms with the Business Process Framework level 3 process elements. The overall process includes identification of which elements to assess, however a minimum of five Level-3 process elements need to be in scope for the Business Process Framework.
  • Business Process Framework conformance involves assessing the assets based on their alignment to the TM Forum standard. Scores are awarded for each in-scope Level 3 process submitted. The Level 3 scores are based on the levels of conformance for the underlying Level 4 processes for which mapping support is provided in the assessment. Levels of conformance to the Level 4 processes are also provided in the Certification Report.
  • Mapping support can also be provided for L4 processes if required. This is permitted whenever the Level-3 process includes a relevant decomposition into Level-4 process elements, and sufficiently detailed textual description of each L4 process is available. It is also possible and necessary to provide mappings and supporting evidence against the Level-4 processes whenever these are in scope.
  • This process can be combined with the Information Framework conformance process by selecting relevant ABEs to achieve the minimum total of 10 elements.
