IG1176 TOSCA Guide for Model-Driven Automation R18.5.0

This report explores the use of TOSCA templates to describe the complete commercial, operational and technical onboarding metadata needed to drive the onboarding processes envisaged in the RN365 Release Notes for IG1141 Procurement and Onboarding Suite R18.0 studies

With the evolution towards new software-based networking technology, the volume and velocity of change, including commercial onboarding into a DevOps environment, requires more efficient automated, data-model-driven onboarding processes.

It looks at a number of use cases, but focusses on physically-related devices, which may be realised as traditional network appliances or as virtualized applications running on a Virtual Machine or cloud infrastructure. The goal is to develop a metadata structure in TOSCA that supports onboarding of both network appliances and network applications.

Due to the complexity and maturity of the analysis, this version is a snapshot of the team’s thinking, and feedback from the wider membership is solicited to drive the development of the next version and any associated catalysts.
