A mature, industry-agreed architecture blueprint for telecoms IT management and operations

Frameworx is our traditional, well-established packaging of Business Process Framework (eTOM), Information Framework (SID) and Application Framework (TAM), with Open APIs providing the integration framework.

Frameworx is a mature, industry-agreed architecture blueprint for telecoms IT management and operations. It’s today’s standard for most telecoms companies and the starting point for radical cloud-native transformation.

How is Frameworx evolving?

The Open Digital Architecture (ODA) is a re-packaging of the Frameworx assets and also new elements for cloud-native IT & networks.

Open Digital Architecture (ODA) is a model- and data-driven architecture for open digital platforms. Designed for cloud-native deployment, ODA is a component-based architecture, with business services exposed via Open APIs.

ODA incorporates many already-mature assets from Frameworx (eg eTOM, SID, Open APIs) but there are some key differences:

  • ODA bridges business and technology, incorporating a comprehensive business architecture
  • The application view in TAM is replaced by the ODA Functional Framework (FF) and ODA Components
  • ODA will be 100% machine-readable and includes collaboratively developed software code
  • ODA includes a reference implementation and a lab-deployed test environment

ODA is designed for a new, more agile way of working, with continuous change managed using CI/CD and DevOps.

The Open Digital Framework (ODF) comprises ODA along with tools, guides and data to help TM Forum members with their transformation journeys to an ODA-based architecture.

As of December 2021, we’re in the process of re-packaging our training courses under ODA/ODF, which means we will be adding new courses and expanding the Frameworx Overview course into a broader Open Digital Framework Overview.  Because ODA includes all the elements of Frameworx (and more), the existing knowledge/career certifications will remain valid (with a new ‘ODA Awareness’ course coming soon for professionals who have completed Frameworx-based training to convert their certifications to ODA and receive updated badges).
